That looks about as classy as the first apartment I had when I moved to town...

Sometimes I miss the $200 a month rent and $20 a month utilities, yes it was tiny and it was a dive.

... And the story behind this is?!

-D

The story behind this is if u knew me or my time on the board is this:

Owned my own houses outright for many years (around 25) and now I live here in this apartment complex.

I guess all I can say is...

You had to be there. But hey, none the less welcome fairly new member.

I live in a fairly nice complex in one of the nicer parts of town and there's always weird stuff going on. Can't wait to buy a house.

$200 a month was only 15 years ago... I was a terrible place to live. The last straw was when there was a drug bust in the apartment next to mine and I got woke up from the wall next to my bed almost getting kicked all the way through.

...and I paid $1250 a month + utilities for a tiny 1 bdrm. duplex w/1 parking space 7 years ago,welcome to SoCal.

(if there's any defense,it was in Newport Beach about a mile from the water:laugh:)

I bet you're missing this view these days, eh Rubb? Only two police cars back then, nothing like Lisa Helps' vision of a socialist paradise that's our norm today.

BREAKING: VicPD to increase Burnside-Gorge and Beacon Hill Park presence due to rising safety concerns among businesses and residents

Victoria, BC – VicPD is deploying extra officers to the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood and the Beacon Hill Park area, an initiative aimed at increasing police visibility and engagement in those areas.

This initiative is scheduled to run for the month of August and will consist of officers maintaining a consistent, high-visibility presence in the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood as well as in and around Beacon Hill Park. The goal of this project is to respond to the concerns of residents and businesses that have been expressed to VicPD over the past few weeks.

“We have heard from the community, especially through the VicPD Block Watch program, that they would like to see more of a VicPD presence in these areas,” said Chief Del Manak. “Our officers will therefore continue to engage with local residents to build relationships and to improve the safety of our community.”

Due to resource constraints, this initiative will be staffed by officers from across the department on special duty assignment.

I sometimes miss no yard work, more often as I get older.
Every once in a while these threads with little blips of my life get dug up.Sometimes awesome and fun, sometimes not so much so. "Yard Work" in that apartment Red consisted of building my neighbor an' 8 foot high lattice structure around his deck so that nobody could see the 8 foot tall pot plants he was growing. I could see them (and water them when he was away) and so could the girl who lived on the other side of him. I could see the ocean from my balcony and also had a view of the crack heads places and the guy spray painting stolen bikes on his balcony at 3 in the morning. The cops were there that day for a domestic where the guy kicked the krap outa his girlfriend. I grew up my whole life in nice houses in beautiful suburbia.
Culture shock for sure. With my less than tolerant attitude towards certain types of society...its been a tough pill to swallow.
Need pills? The guy in 3B has everything you can think of.
Crack,heron,coke...all visible from my window.
You want extra fentanyl with that? No worries...included,free of charge.
I made my bed...you know the rest.
It's all good.
Rubb.

Yeah you're right Rubb. Mowing and weed eating is replaced by whatever activity. A tech at one of the dealers I used to work at always used to say "it's nothing but something to do" after he'd helped somebody for free. Responsibilities even self imposed fill our time which is a good thing usually.
