99 and 2000 fuel sending unit

Has anyone tried using a 99 and 2000, fuel sending unit on a newer harness? We upgraded my buddies turbo bike to a newer harness, and cant get the fuel gauge to work!
Any input would be helpful!

I think I might have had the key on before I plugged the harness into the sending unit
But it works now
