Ok, so I decided to bob an old bike. I got ahold of this one and starting cutting off the rear end that weekend. This bike is a 1985 VF700C (Magna). It had a couple issues that were very easy to fix but the owner was at a loss so I picked it up for $200. Thats right TWO HUNDRED. Here is a picture diary of what I did. There was 5 weekends of only one day on each weekend that it was worked on. Made me happy that I know how to weld and have good friends to help me with these projects. It makes projects like this a lot more fun.

Thanks again Dan for all your help.

Here is the Pre chop in the garage next to the Busa

Here is weekend 2. This was all about the hardtail and getting the stance the way that I wanted it.

Weekend 4 was all about the forks.... New seals and air pressure. Yes airpressure and painting all the old nasty metal for the black out look.

Weekend 4 was the frame finishing and painting and making mounts for the seat. There is the new battery box welded in and some other odd and ins...

Here is the final deal. I only have a few things left to do, but I did ride it to the gas station and get some fuel. The clutch master is not the right one for the bike so it does not want to let the clutch loose, the seat needs a new front mount that is more sturdy, and a round headlight. The suicide shift and forward controls are coming also.

This dang thing is fast. Amazing what happens when you cut out over 100 pounds off a bike. Factory she was 80 hp. Fun to ride, that is for sure.

Nice mod.
I too had a Magna 700 and the only issue I had was the cams went soft. Other than that it was fun.

Man, if my uncle did that to the one I just sold, I think I'd disown him... but again this wasn't no $200 Magna. :beerchug:

Are you going to incorporate the front seat?

It looks FREAKING great! (and yes, there was a lot of :beerchug: during the build)

Sorry I missed the last day of putting her back together.

That was common with those V-4s... Not enough oil to the top-end. I had an '83 v45 Sabre. Loved that bike. Guys with newer 600's and 750's were surprised at how fast my '83 was.

Nice chop Mike! How's that ridged feel with the shaft drive? I'ld get bigger seat springs!
Send a pic to The Horse mag!

Great job!

makes me wish I still had my 83. I might have to start looking around for one to do this to.

Ohhh....I had an '83 V45...I'd love to get another one.
That bike has a place in my heart and just looks kick butt.

If I ever run across a good example and I got the money...

I'm partial to the '85's and '86 styling.

My buddy had an '84 and no matter what he read or heard (or how hard he'd run that puppy) I'd always whup his butt in races... afterwards he bought an '85 and then we'd be just about even.

The soft cams became an issue for him too but for me I'd never had any problems with any pitting etc. Guess my '85 was a later run.
