Yes he did but he wasnt running 170mph skiing on rubber wheels with crosswinds and prop wash from other planes possible. Besides he could do anything he wanted to but I couldnt .
keep in mind, that with speed, the impact between the wheels and the water gains friction, due to surface tension, they might as well be doing a touch and go in a parking lot, it just looks a lot cooler on water
