Things to be Grateful For!

So many of you know that I run a large scale vehicle/fleet repair facility. When you run a business your employees or staff become like a family. While this is also true with co-workers in a job it’s a bit more when you happen to be their boss. I have 20 - 25 people who look to me to solve problems daily. That isn’t even always work related either and I do truly care for all my employees.
The area where my shop is (and @POWERHOUSE ) is industrial and there is everything from iron workers to recycling facilities and even a casket maker all in this densly populated industrial area. When you go down these blocks there are trailers whizzing by, fork lifts, bob cats, Hayabusa’s....you name it.
So today some careless people almost seriously hurt 2 of the members of my driver staff. One is a young guy about 30 or 31 and another is an older gentleman in his 60’s. They were making a trip to a recycling facility because I wanted to clean up the lot a bit in anticipation of some inclement weather. The block after Jersey is Kean and the guys were coming down that street when a forklift came barreling out full speed right into the side of one of my pickup/delivery vehicles. If they had the forks positioned 2 feet higher I would have lost 2 employees and friends today. I am grateful that those forks were low and my 2 drivers made it out unscathed. The people who work for the company that acted so careless attempted to shrug it off and were saying oh we will just pay to have it fixed it’s not a big deal. I lost it, I told them, not a big deal?! First off your lucky you didn’t harm my men and second off this is what I do for a living and that truck can’t be fixed. (The rocker and door frame were crushed badly). I called the police to make a report because I needed the situation to be a wake up call for them. At the end of the day they are buying us a replacement vehicle and I hope they realize they could have and still can seriously hurt someone if they act so carelessly.

Just reading this made me angry. Can't imagine having to suffer through it. You were justified in losing it, and the driver of that forklift should be grateful you didn't rearrange his face to match your company truck, because that's what I would have done (well, okay, I would have tried). Sounds like you'll be compensated, but oh! how I appreciate the production downtime incidents like this cause. Really glad to hear your people walked away from that close call. And for that, I am grateful as well.

Man!!!! I’m glad nothing worse happened. That could’ve really been bad had those fork been higher.

I am glad your two guys are ok, and glad your truck will be replaced.

I'm sure the forklift operator would not have done this maliciously and it seems the company he works for doesn't have real good safety protocols. Hopefully the operator has to attend some sort of safety course as a result of this to at least educate him.

Arsenal ?
They were headed to ARROW but never made it. I think Arsenal is on Jersey. This was STARR Industries. Funny thing is they brought a truck to me about a year and a half ago that had some noise in the front end. I spent 2 days going through it top to bottom and writing a quote and they decided not to do the work. I had to fight them for my 2.5 hours of diagnostic time. Guess as they say, Karma is a B!tch

Glad your guys are okay.
I'd ask if that forktruck driver was certified, if not sue the sh!t outta the company. As mentioned, while I'm sure the operator wasn't malicious, a (very) basic course in any type of equipment operation teaches you to carry any attachments as low as possible. This guy either hadn't had any training and that's on the company, or ignored it, and that's on him.

Let me tell you, that truck is definitely not fixable. That will be totalled out 100%. Thank god the guys were not hurt, this is a serious cause for concern on the other companies part. I think now is a good time for them to hold a safety meeting and discuss what occurred so people start paying attention.

Arsenal and STARR are the same company. I have my own situations with these knuckleheads on my own block. Phil is the owner, I have his cell phone and his knows me very well. Doesn't always like it when I call though, because there is always something those idiots did . . .
