The story of my 2006 Hayabusa and it’s near death experience including its revival (thanks to monster fairings)
Let me start by talking about my bike...a 2006 Hayabusa in the Candy Indy blue and oort grey metallic. I bought it brand new in 2006 after a brief period with a 2006 gsxr 600 which I hated (sucky power band, terrible riding position and no soul as I like to put it). Bought the GSXR 600 for $9,500. Had it three months and went back to dealer when I saw a used limited edition 04 Busa. They wanted $7,800 for it...it had a micron full exhaust, power commander and small goodies. They were giving me $6,800 on trade for my 600 with 1,200 miles so for $1,000 more I was getting a Busa which was my dream bike.
We had drawn up the paperwork, was about to sign when they wheeled in the 06 in blue and silver. I abruptly told them to stop and bought that one for $10,500 with tax.
Within the first week it got a full yosh trs exhaust. Power commander and a bunch of other items to personalize the bike.
For 10 years I rode the bike, cared for it, regularly waxed it, cleaned it and I have to say I still love it to this day,13,000 miles later.
2 years ago I moved out of my parents into an apartment with no garage. I left the bike at my parents until I had a falling out with my dad and moved it to my shop ( I run a fleet repair shop ).
One of the coworkers said if I wanted to I could keep the bike in his garage. Well needless to say it was soon found out that the motive of letting me keep my bike in his garage was so he could go joy riding. Apparently on one such joy ride he managed to go down and wreck the bike pretty badly. He told me he would pay to fix everything and I believed this to be true.
The tow company took the bike back to their yard who happened to be a friend of his and he conveniently stopped working with me went mia successfully dodging me for 2 years and withholding my bike from me. This resulted in over $3,000 in storage fees. After a lot of perseverance and mild threats I was able to get him to pay the storage and give me $2,000 to fix the bike.
Which leads me to the rebuild, $2,000 was not nearly enough to put the bike back to its perfect factory state so I knew oem fairings were out.
I laid out a list and budget of everything I needed to make the bike run and usable and I plan to replace the oem fairings in the future.
Used mint Tank in my color I scored this for $389.84 and I paid with my own money

$299.95 new pipe to mod (just a standard yoshimura trs bolt on that I cut)
Used clutch cover $36.75
Mirrors $134.10

This left me with about $775.00 for fairings which I allotted to go to monster fairings with and have them custom paint fairings to mimick my paint scheme with some tweaks.
I will get to a review of my experience and the product from them thus far shortly I just want to describe my goals with the rebuild.
A lot of small details went into the rebuild I really wanted to customize the bike while keeping the bike looking the "same" from a distance.
I tweaked the paint scheme with the help of monster fairings, The majority of stuff changed was like the fairing nose decals were modeled after the 2016 Busa's (just a straight ending of sticker, no color fade blend) I had all the silver lines on the fairing decals darkened.
I have been adding lot of little carbon fiber accents and blue accents.
All the engine casing covers are original but will be powder coated lollipop blue.
The heel plates and passenger peg mounts are being powder coated gloss black with carbon trim and I got blue pegs.
