The Intermot Show is in full swing today. Suzuki isn't setting the world on fire but they did show the production version of the new GSXR1000 and its racier sibling the GSXR1000R. Love Bike Show Season man!

Could this possibly mean that we may soon see more than BNG for the flagship???

200 HP, VVT, six axis IMU, three rider modes, 10 levels of traction control, up and down clutchless shifting, ABS....all in a package under 450lbs.

I beg to differ...

Unfortunately a lot of oems make claims of 200 hp for a liter bike . . . including BMW. We have yet to see this on the dyno. Is Slowzuki claiming rear wheel on that number? I will believe it when one actually puts that number down on our own dyno.

The dyno chart above is for a 2016 Kawasaki ZX10. Flashed ecu, custom dyno map . . .

Claimed on the ZX10 is 197 at 84 with stock exhaust . . . the new CBR1000RR SP is supposed to be up 10 hp, whether or not that is rear wheel we will soon see. The liter class seems to be heating up, with Honda going to a fly by wire setup. It should be interesting next year. It would be nice if some attention was given to the open class, maybe some bold new colors . . .

What's interesting is the Euro 4 compliance. In the recent 2016 SBOTY tests, the ZX10R was panned for coughing out of the turns (Kawasaki was the only one that was already Euro 4, but in 2017 everyone has to be). Apparently the new Euro 4 really robs the bottom end. So maybe Suzuki was slick by going to the VVT system to add mid-range punch when the competition will be sputtering down low. This could be amazing, Suzuki going from zero to hero!

Once that ZX10 was flashed and properly tuned, the coughing and sputtering on the bottom end was gone. Every time new regs come down the pike, it seems to screw up how these bikes run. Flashing ecus will become a necessity on everything (it seems) going forward, as will fuel tuning. I hope Suzuki hits a home run with this new GSXR and look forward to changes with the Busa as well.

yea it looks like the last 5 GSXR's that have come out..... and so what every top super bike made today has traction control, ABS etc...... those are standard options on just about every super bike made there days. some have a couple bells and whistles the others don't but the bottom line is its boring and looks like last years model which is par for the course for Slozuka with "Bold new colors".....

place the 2017 against the 2007 GSXR and look nearly identical! thats lame!

What is it supposed to look like? It's two wheels, motor, and fairings. Minus trellis frames, they all kind of look alike don't you think?

I don't think there was any real issue with the looks, and as 2bros says all sport bikes look alike anyways. But Suzukis have always been monster track bikes and easy to live with road bikes - that made them #1 for so long. It would be awesome if Suzuki delivered the first electronic bike that felt like a Suzuki, simple to ride and very fast........

I hope they hit a home run. It will be interesting to see the first ones start showing up. I suspect it will take them an extra year to wring out any gremlins they find..

Even if the new GSXR isnt blowing your skirt up it should at the very least get you thinking about what could be in the Gen 3 Hayabusa! Ride by wire, VVT, cornering abs, state of the art up/down quick shifter etc. Would all be welcome additions.

Ummmm, that's not the 2017, but the 2016 commemorative edition.

MCN Australia has some really tasty imagery of the internals of the New GSXR. The detail shot of the Finger Followers make me wonder if they will find their way onto a new Busa motor any time soon. The pics in this article are true MotoPorn!
