Harley, Goldwing, VStrom, Spyder, BMW, Ducati - all brought together for this all new Pashnit IBA Rally

Quite a few riders remarked they learned about this ride while checking out the Iron Butt Association Calendar of Events.

My plan was to leave at 3am

7997956752_6f29a6923b_b.jpg

Several of us leaving at that time - all headed different directions, on different routes

Each rider planned out their own 1000 mile route.

Tim & his Concours: hours later, we'd both pull into the same gas station from opposite directions. Both at the 630 mile mark, on the other side of the state.

Time to leave.

I was so excited to leave after a year of planning, I was shaking.

5:20 AM. Nevada's Hwy 50, The Loneliest Road in America

...and the sun was just beginning to come over the horizon.

It took a full hour of riding for the sun to come up. That was really special.

How do you describe that to someone who doesn't ride?

I know it looks like perfect nothing.

But I think it looks like Busa Country.

More of this...!

Something interesting beside the road - Kept thinking this was one of the old Pony Express stops, but there was no sign for the history of the structure.

The original Pony Express route parallels Hwy 50 to the north.

And in case you're wondering - yes, that's stock bars, and just a Corbin seat with the AirHawk.

The Air Hawk seat cushion proved to be one of the secret success stories of pulling off a ride like this.

We sell a lot of Zero Gravity windscreens at Pashnit Moto, so that's the Sport-Touring model in use.

Arriving in Ely, Nevada. Full of beautiful murals everywhere.

All of us kept saying E-LEE, but it's E-LIE. Sorry for mis-pronoucing your town name so much.

Then I realized I rolled right into the middle of the Silver State Classic. Remember watching Cannonball Run as a kid? Kinda like that. Well sort of.

The only open road race on a public road in the United States- it's the Fastest Speed on a Public Highway

Top speeds have hit 218 mph on the 90 mile public road course.

Curious? Check it out: Silver State Classic Challenge Inc.

Don't see many of these.

7997979880_5b2c1ffde4_b.jpg

All manner of cars - from normal Mustangs & Cameros, lots of Corvettes, and all sorts of exotica & vintage.

Another 120 mile jaunt, this time up to my northern point at Wendover. The only civilization on the 100+ mile length was that clump of trees there.

7997973679_f25024f7dc_b.jpg

Yes, that's extra fuel.

I'd be needing it later to make my route.

Then I saw it!

The whole reason to come all this way.

The Bonneville Salt Flats.... I've been wanting to come here for 20 yrs!
No kidding.

I've made it!

All those years of reading Hot Rod magazine as a kid...

7997982648_1ae54c1a08_b.jpg

And yes, you can just ride right out onto the salt.

And into the obligatory Pashnit Photo Shoot. Of Course!

The salt was quite fascinating.

The Salt Flats are so flat, you can see the curvature of the earth.

When it's wet, it's kind of like cake batter. Or like frosting. Hard enough to put the side stand down & not sink in.

7998009405_79447e02f4_b.jpg

And coating everything on the bike.

I'm told it's caustic.

The results of my photo escapade, and yes, I'm shooting the some photo over and over.

But here are a few of the good ones.

7998014608_90f3d4d29a_b.jpg

Captured that aforementioned curvature. ;)

Felt like baking a Cake.

There was an inch-thick layer of salt in the belly pan.

The specks in the distance are EZ-Ups and vehicles.

They were running a motorcycle while I was there: they hit 211 mph on their run.

Another group was preparing a streamliner on the adjacent nearby track.

Time to leave.

The clock is always ticking on the 1000 Mile Day.

Need to make tracks, need to cover about 350 miles before my next break.

Which is pretty simple when the road looks like this.
