The Good, The Bad & The ugly

Ok where do I start, not a good day for Gene. The good of course is I'm not dead, paralized or even seriously injured...

As for what actually happened I'm still not quite really sure, I remember tires gettin really squirley thinking "this is not good" the next thing I know I'm hangin practically upside down in some brush/trees whatever knowing I had gone off the side (I believe they call this stretch of road "The Mini Dragon") sure bit my ass good. All I can imagine is that I went into a turn too fast and hit the brakes way to hard causing the slide and the derailment from the roadway... .

Gene:

I was one of the riders who met with you, Russ and Robert at Mariposa's 'Happy Burger' and we are all so very happy to be able to read of your having made it home! We all like to be able to remember certain rides and Memorial Day Weekend is usually one that can be remembered without such antics as the attempt to see a Busa fly!!!

From the looks of the scene (and there wasn't a lot of 'evidence') you went completely across the road, into the oncoming lane of a fairly mellow turn. Your bike then went off the tarmac onto the sand/gravel of the side and then slid until the edge of the 'cliff' and you were launched. The bike ended getting stuck in a tree with you probably getting hung up in it too, but eventually dropping to where you were found about 30 feet below the roadway.

We had three riders turn around from Coulterville which was about five miles north of where the accident took place. As we went back to look for ya none of the three us spotted you, missing the slight 'evidence' of the get-off. Apparently your waving your helmet caught the eye of some passing biker(s) who called it in. From the time of your get-off, until help arrived, was probably about 20 minutes and those ladies & gentlemen that pulled you up were of a super class of folks!

Our group hung around until you were taken care of and the reminants of your bike were up on the hook. We then escorted Russ back to Jamestown and he then caught up to you in Sonora...

That was how some of us saw it and the 'why' this happened will be open to some discussion, but it was not the way we like our Memorial Day rides to be remembered!

Again, it is great to read from you and we all wish you the quickest of healing and hope to see you out on the roads again here real soon!

Gene, I'm so sorry this all happened, I don't have any replacement parts for your body but I do have some Hayabusa stuff! When the time comes, remember to ask. Take care of yourself, remember, you are at your worst in terms of making sound decisions right after a get off, so heal a few days before deciding anything! Keep us posted about it all my friend. Hats off to an honest man. No excuses like the old gravel myth

Now if you would have blamed it on those Pilot Powers, I would have completely accepted that! :cheerleader:

Nothing broken but your pride man! Just be grateful for a few bruises and take it with a smile :)

I do hope your bike is repairable. Unless the frame is broken, you can have her going quickly with the help of ebay.

I do feel your pain as well. Us old dudes take a long time to heal up, I've been there and it's not fun when you can't comb your hair for a week after a crash! Patch that heifer up and throw a leg over her as soon as she is road worthy! Don't let a little getoff discourage you! :beerchug:

hurry up and let us know what you need to fix her back up....so we can all start shipping

GLAD YOUR OK! JUST REMEMBER WHEN A BUSA DIES AND GOES TO HEAVEN ANOTHER ONE IS BORN TO TAKE IT'S PLACE:thumbsup:

Thanks everyone, well after only 5 hours sleep i'm up to check the soreness/stiffness level and much to my surprise it's not much worse than last night, whole right hip is more swollen and a bit more sore but not what I expected. On the other hand "to add insult to injury" a great deal of the brush I lay in waiting for help was poison oak "Yippie:cheerleader:" I look like I was in a 12 round boxing match, both eyes are red, itchy, puffy and almost swollen shut, man do I look good.

wow, glad you are ok.. scary ride you took and thank for not killing any puppies (a puppy dies every time gravel takes a bike off the road :) )

Wow Gene................... I Thought I was having a bad Day. All Day I felt like a Round Peg in a Square Hole. Going Wide on Turns. Turning Too Early. Braking at the Wrong Times. That's why I left Early and Was Going Real Slow............. I Tell ya gene don't blame yourself too much........That Road is Very Challenging to even the Best Riders.

I Can't believe I Missed YA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bad Robert :spank: I just thought you were with the Others because I was going Real Slow and lost Sight of you and the other's.

Good thing is that YOU ARE OK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and there are Alot of Surplus Orange and Black 08 Available........??? That way WE can be the 4 Amigos

If Not we can Rebuild Your Old Bike. As long as The Wheels are Good and the Frame is Striaght.

Call me if YA Need ANYTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Work where you live...........

Robert

I'm happy as he11 it turned out as well as it did. What could be better than Gene walking thru his front door this morning under his own power.

It was fortunate that he left the roadway where he did and to have heavy foliage there to break his fall. That canyon is very steep and rocky. It drops hundreds to a thousand feet in places.

When I saw Bosshound pass by in Coulterville it was a sinking feeling. I was sure Gene was behind me and in front of Boss. After a few more minutes we headed back up the road in search of Gene. I was going fairly slow and scanning off the road and down the hillside. I got all the way back to the bridge with no sign of him.

Three of us searching missed him. At that point I honestly had little hope of finding the point he ran off the road. If he had been unconscious or injuried worse than he was, have nodoubt we would still be searching for him.

Here are the pics. It's the .Org right?

Probably 25 feet down and a lot steeper than it looks in the pics.

I think all the rash on the right side is from the drag back up the hill. I'm guessing that the bike was pretty much upright as it slid in gravel until it left the shoulder.

Absolutely no need to thank us. When we ride as a group we take care of the participants to the best of our ability and if anybody can't bear up to that then they are not a part of our group! Very simple.

I hope the healing goes well my brother. Sounds like you might have fractured a rib or two.
