CHP Radar, have they got something new?

This past week my $500 Escort 9500i lit up at full tilt no early warning ... on 3 seperate occaisions. Each time it was the standard KA band that the CHP use around here. It was probly "instant on" or something similar. Normally it will give plenty of warning, but not these times.

The CHP was only 100-200 yards from me when it hit. Fortunately I was going the speed limit in my truck. Had I been on the bike I most likely woulda been had.

Anyone know about this? ???

Laser won't activate KA band detectors. It's light, not dopplar.

"Instant on" is a misconception. We have a remote with a hold button. I routinely keep mine on hold until I need to clock someone. I then take it off hold and almost instantaneously get a speed reading. Your detector won't go off until I already have your speed. Nothing new at all about this method.

you have to watch for blips....make sure you utilize the city/highway/auto accordingly. With a laser reading it only lets you know you just got zapped...unless you are lucky enough to catch a deflection first.

I've had a similar experience with my V1. Most times its a cop that I think, is turning it on and off 'fishing' for speeders. If he doesn't get one right away, he stops sending the signal. Gotta be careful out there boys, the cops are getting smarter. Not too many of those who drive around all day with it on all the time. Those are fun, but hard on my ears!!!

Thanx everyone for your input. It was Definately not Laser, and in Nor Cal the chippy's use KA alot and the sheriffs dept and local pd us K band as do the speed machines that you see on the side of the road. Also the motion sensers at Towermart ... hardly any use of X band anymore.

On a recent trip to LA I was draggin the trailer with my truck and doin the limit of 55mph when I saw a CHP pointing a device at me and I was getting full laser alert. So I know different districts have them. So I just wondered if they had something new ...

Yeah, the only technical problem is that the gun requires more time to get a stable reading than it takes to give a reading on the display. If you tag someone with "Instant On" it will always give a false reading. It will be close, but not accurate.

You can be sneaky, but you can't beat physics.

Was it this guy?

This was a lucky shot. I was fiddling with new camera (actually reading the manual ) when what do I see? This is actually the first time I've ever seen a CHP using laser locally.

Been meaning to add this photo to the Cheetah Laser Jammer page.

Maybe we could have a caption contest for this picture.

Your wasted tax dollars at work maybe?
