The two questions I get asked every day now

Ah -- I'm basing it on the trip meter. Which is funny because the ODO in stock gearing is off, but not as much as the speedo (they put in some kind of multiplier), so I'm sure I'm off but I don't know how much. My associates are busting on my because it doesn't have "OR" in there (can't do both...

The two questions I get asked every day now

I give you the best bling I've added in a few:

    Tires

I'm on my third set of M1s. I get about 6000mi out of each. It's a good middle-of-the-road tire, in the sense that it has good wet traction, pretty sticky in the dry, warms up pretty quickly, and good wear for a sport tire. I'm a Metzler #####, however. I've been using nothing but Metzlers or...

    200 mph speeding ticket

Used a stopwatch from an aircraft. A a fraction of a second anywhere in that range of speed would constitute a significant error. I.e., if he was doing 80 a blink of the eye wouldn't matter, but at 180 it's a different matter.

CARR: Middle of somewhere ride, 01/05

(...CARR = Cheap-Assed Ride Report...) My life is such that I got a chance to point my bike at something other than work or home for the first time in three months yesterday. I ride everyday, however, so I was starting to go mad -- my favorite (clothed) thing to do was starting to feel like...

    Corbin seats...fitting problem

I had to add washers under the front and rear on mine. Note that Corbin makes two different rears depending on what model year you have. In my case, I have a Ventura rack and I needed even more clearance for the rear. It was a couple of years ago when I installed this, but I recall having to...

    Busted fork seals?

Did a 200mi loop today through the eastern plains (25degF and foggy...mmmm...). Got home and gave the 'Busa its third WD40 bath of the winter to get the salts off and noticed a fine sheen of oil on the lower (TiN coated) fork legs. It's very light oil, more on one side than the other but a...

    Gerbing Apparel...Heated Gloves, Jacket, etc....

Yeah, what they said. The stock headlights draw around 55 or 60w each, and HIDs are typically 35w. A buddy of mine who's done a lot of cross-country/long-distance riding on his 'Busas has tested the usage extensively, mounting a voltmeter on the dash to keep track of things. Basically, two...

    Gerbing Apparel...Heated Gloves, Jacket, etc....

I've been wearing a Gerbing's jacket liner and gloves for three years and with three different bikes. The one I have now is dual-wired, so I can adjust the temp of the gloves and liner independently. I will never ride without electric gear again. If it's very cold (on a bike at speed, <40degF)...

    Riding in extremely cold/wet weather

I ordered an XL Ski-Doo (DOT, not Snell) modular from cyclecity1.com earlier this week. Apparently BRP only makes a certain number every year and certain sizes/colors are scarce, but they did have a yellow one. I normally wear an Arai RX7-RR4. It's a comfortable helmet in all weather and it's...

Stupidest thing I have seen in a while...

Firstly, it throws off your balance. If your legs aren't stowed they hang loose, meaning that they are randomly shifting your center of gravity. Second, if you catch your toe on something at any speed you will in all probability be crippled. Lastly, if a situation arises where you need...

    HID kits that work

All motorcycles should have HIDs -- mine kick ass light-wise, and I have enough watts left over to run more stuff, like my electric winter gear.

    SHOEI RF 1000 SUCKS!

My Arai RX7-RR4 is a jet blast at highway speeds. Serious hearing loss over time. If you look at the OSHA standards for ambient noise and hearing loss and do the math, highway speeds equate permanent damage in as little as an hour. Wear earplugs, period, even if your helmet is quieter. I didn't...

    '05 LE

I just saw this -- holy crap, that's nice. I would say this -- a dusty/muddy one of those isn't going to look that good, kinda nondescript, but clean and polished it would be purrty.

    Passing the baton

Dude, big boo-boo. Rule one of parenting is that you can't take care of anybody else unless you take care of number one. That means good food, rest when you can, exercise, and -- most of all -- keep your head straight. If you're a basket case, you kid won't be any better for it. After three...
