I added the 4 way feature to my '03 by using a separate switch mounted under the starter button and a couple of diodes wired into the stock turn signal circuit. It works great, but I really don't use them. They are good to have if you have to stop on the side of the road, especially at night.
You can remove the clutch assembly and basket but there is not enough room to access the seal from what I recall. Check the repair manual to see if there are any pictures of the case from that angle. I'm not near a motor that I can look at.

If you don't have a copy of the service manual you can download it here. Just do a search and you should find a thread that gives a link. It's a fairly easy job. You may loose some oil but not much. I can usually remove the cover without damaging the gaskets so I just reuse it. It takes an 8...
Pull the clutch cover and check the bolts on the clutch. I had a friend with the same problem on a Gen I and the bolts on the clutch came loose and he had a spring bouncing around and a couple of bolts loose and hitting the inside of the cover

That's a lot of money to spend on a toy that you will only be able to enjoy 36 days out of the year and that's only if the weather is good.
