    building a drag bike

Some thoughts in no particular order: After the obvious stuff like swingarm and shifter, the next single biggest improvement would be a Hays or MTC convertible (engine driven) clutch. Sometimes called a hand slider. If you gear the bike down to go through the traps at 11krpm, and you have...

    Ram Air Tubes

The real benefit you get from the ram air system is the fact that the air isn't heated by the engine. The difference in 110 F air vs. 70 F air is real horsepower. My Gen II is race only now, but I put a lot of effort into getting the top of the motor (radiating source) cool, and the bottom of...

    Ram Air Tubes

I hate to break peoples hearts on this, but the amount of free HP that sealing ducts might translates to isn't measurable. A pretty good estimate for calculting dynamic pressure is 1/2pV^2, and even assuming that 100% of the dynamic pressure is converted to static pressure in the plenum, the...

Fatal Crashes in Land Speed Racing

Scott, You certainly have been involved in (I think) all of the accident investigations and know the both the cause of the accident and the cause of death. I don't know the particulars of either. Most of the emphasis of these investigations have been centered on the cause of the accident, but...

    generation 2 dyno numbers

Got Busa's numbers are spot on. But notice the big difference in power between fuels. You can blame it on corn. Modern gasoline sucks. 10% ethanol fuel has 4 -5 % less BTUs than old gas just because alcohol has half the BTUs per pound than gasoline. That's the main advantage with race gas.

Proof, removing the ECU restrictions equals no peformance gain!

Again, mis-information. Bracket racing rewards the faster vehicle in two major ways. first one to redlight loses, so if your trying to cut the light close with an 11 second bike, you have a 20% chance of bulb-ing and going back to your trailer. And if you don't cut that light close, you...

    Clutch Assist

The clutch hub on a stock Gen II busa has a cam mechanism that reduces force on off-throttle and increases force on full-throttle. The ZX10 you raced has a similar mechanism. Its not a lock up. It just a cam that increases pressure under load. Good idea for road racing where you don't want a...

    Body Panels Coming Off

My whole right side blew off at 175. Pretty scary moment, and caused the bike to swerve and lean a bit. I drag race my machine weekly, so the plastic is coming on and off all the time. After a while, the snaps don't snap the same way as they did when they are new. I would not recomend running...

Proof, removing the ECU restrictions equals no peformance gain!

Someone please kill this thread. First it starts by spewing out crap information about ECU restrictions. 100% wrong info. Then is starts spewing out crap information about drag racing. 100% wrong info. Not it is spewing out crap about LSR racing. Anyone who has flown over the craters at...

Proof, removing the ECU restrictions equals no peformance gain!

Up here in New Hampshire we all bracket race 7 second street bikes. In the quarter... The title of this thread is silly. The ability to modify the ECU and the flash support out there from people like Petrik and others is the single greatest reason to own a Hayabusa.

    easy mods

There is a very remote possibility that you have a European restricted model. Certain countries have HP limitations to 100 HP, and by my calculation, that's about what you have. The power is restricted by the ECU controlling the secondary throttle plates just like "C" mode. Again, this...

    easy mods

ET is all about technique and seat time. I have seen 400 hp bikes go 10s at 180 mph, and 100 hp bikes go low 9s at 130. MPH is not about technique and seat time. Its about power, and (within reason) you can totaly hack up the first 60 ft, and still fairly accurately estimate the power to the...

    Gen 2 injector flow rate

BTW, that works out to about 37 HP per injector at an 80% duty cycle (maxed out). So you can only get 3x37 = 300 hp out of these injectors at 43 psi. This of course assumes you have a pump that can supply the fuel and a motor that can burn it. Thats why an adjustable regulator is handy.

    Gen 2 injector flow rate

Kind of splitting hairs, but the spec is 270 CC/min @ 43 psi. I have RC recalibrate every race season, and they typically only measure 255 to 267 prior to clean / balance. It doesn't take much to throw them off.
