Hayabusa Cam chain question

Have a 2002 Hayabusa, had from new. Noisy engine, mechanic says I need new Cam chain and tensioner. Do Cam chains normally need replacing? Been quoted price £450 parts, plus £300 labour. Does this sound right?
Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Laszlo and :welcome:

I have never heard of cam chains being an issue on Busa's, I know the early ones had a cam chain adjuster recall, my 1999 model had the work done, but I don't know if that affected the 2002 models.

Where are you from in the UK we have a Busa specialist here near Preston Lancs whose charging rate is excellent by comparison.

Best regards Stretch

Your cam chain is probably fine. The tensioner goes bad on just about every Busa and is loud when it starts to go, and most guys replace it with an adjustable one. (APE, Brock's, etc.) If that doesn't do it, maybe adjusting your clutch and syncing your throttle bodies and she should be smooth as new.

Could you let me know the name of the specialist in Preston? I've had enough of so called dealers.
