ok....
for a guy who has never done a track day (but would love to do one) is the idea of a hot track a good one, or simply asking for trouble?![]()
A hot track has advantages and dissadvantages, just like a 3 or 2 group format.
Advantage Hot track;
With 20min group sessions, they actually end up being more like 14min sessions sometimes. *3mins getting people on the track + 3mins getting people off the track = 14mins left. *Not to mention a couple warm-up laps and a cool down lap and you're talking about 4-5 hot laps a session.
All the track time your body can handle.
You can go out whenever you feel like it, you don't need a watch or have to listen to the PA system to know when its your turn.
You get out on the track and something feels wrong or you find yourself next to a retard, just get off. *Check things over and head back out at your leisure, no stress over lost time.
Most organizers don't regulate the groups very well. *You find fast riders in C group and slow riders in A group.
Advantage Group format;
Everyone "should" be organized into groups of the same speed.
More people can go to a trackday. *100 people in 3 groups VS 35 people for the whole day.
Because more people can go, prices "should" be cheaper.
We'll take care of anybody who is doing their first trackday. *The organizer will brief you on the rules, flags, and getting on/off the track. *The only other thing a newbie needs to be shown is the racing line, should only take 2-3 laps. *Ride the racing line and you'll have no problems, faster riders will find the way around you when you are consistently on the racing line.
Lamb, Wag, and BusaWhipped all rode in A group(the fastest group) at Miller on their 2nd day. *You'll be fine Craig *![]()
but....socaltrackdays' website states that they "try" to enforce the rule of "experienced track riders" only. They mentioned orgs like fastrackriders, STAR or Code school, etc.
I doubt it's something they enforce, but....if you're a newbie to the track...sign up at your own risk. But we'll take good care of ya while you're with us.
My biggest recommendation is to try and get at least one trackday under your belt before doing Spring Mountain. That way, newbies will get an idea of flags, entering/exiting race track, safety procedures, track etiquette, etc..

It's a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. They don't really enforce it. And, they'll cover all of the track procedures at the riders briefing (flags, entry/exit to paddock, etc.).Originally Posted by gtrpimp76 @ Dec. 06 2007, 2:15 AM

One question for you... The breakfast and lunch barbque, is it free or extra charge?
Craig you'll be fine with you're experience on the bike. It may be your first time on the track, but you're not a newbie.
As for the question about gear and bike prep, each organization has different rules. I'll find SoCal Trackday's rules and post them up![]()

As for the question about gear and bike prep, each organization has different rules. *I'll find SoCal Trackday's rules and post them up *
Prep
Bike Preparation:
- A clean, road-worthy motorcycle with properly operating controls is required.
- Minimum 250 cc displacement.
- Mirrors must be taped or removed.
- Headlight and taillight must be taped and the taillight completely covered or disabled to not distract following riders.
- Engine in good running condition with no leaks.
- Tires in new or near new condition. This is important because you can easily get in excess of 100 laps (220 miles) on the track per day.
- Safety wire or RTV silicone adhesive is required on the oil drain bolt and recommended on other critical fasteners.
- Wheel weights must be taped.
Rider Equipment:
- Full coverage leathers (1 piece or top and bottom zipped together) or an equivalent Cordura Nylon or Kevlar suit. (Aerostich OK)
- Leather or Kevlar riding gloves extending above the wrist.
- Leather riding boots extending above the ankle.
- A DOT and/or Snell approved full-face helmet with no damage.
- Joe Rocket "Phoenix" or similar light-weight suits are not acceptable.

"Straights are for fast bikes. Turns are for fast riders."
Lamb is officially signed in and can't wait for this day!
HAYABUSA============>>Think fast!
This is too good. I am scheduled to work night shifts those days so I will have to make arrangements otherwise I would have paid for the track day already, so I guess I am saying I am a strong candidate.
The Las Vegas Drag strip LVMS.COM does not have their 2008 schedule up yet, (I talked to them yesterday). But there is always the possibility of a Friday night run what you brung "Midnight Madness" and the cost is somewhere between $10-20 for the night to run as many passes as you like on a world class drag strip. So this could be another night of great fun for everyone to show up and represent, especially for those that do not want to track day or find the 35 slots are closed out. The crowd always appreciates bikes on the track.
Hell yea its fast you dumb @$$, its a turbo Busa.
Alright! A perfect spot for a meet-n-greet
HAYABUSA============>>Think fast!
Ok I'm signed up. I have to see about getting the days off now.
Can't wait!
Age and treachery will over come youth and skill!
