In about 30 days I'm going to have the first surgery in my life (34 y/o, 16 yrs U.S. Army). I have to go to Ft Sam Houston, Tx for the surgery. My ACL, Miniscus and PCL are damaged or as the doctor said F***** up. Anyone been through this type of surgery. Tell me what to expect and recovery info.

I have had torn miniscus repaired in both knees. Not too bad as far as pain and recovery. 2 weeks you should be back to normal. ACL is another story- My wife had that done. Recovery is pretty intense for about a month. Using a machine to bend your knee slowly at home. Tons of excercises etc.. Good luck hope all turns out OK.
I have another problem in one knee. My knee cap is twisted and I have to have another operation. Also arthritis is in there already.

MCL many moons ago, pretty rough. Technology has changed a lot since. Good Luck. I don't know about you, but I didn't have a choice.

My buddy had surgery about 6 months ago and he's doing real good now . Back to sking. I will have to have it done sometime soon. Yu got my prayers since you will be going to a military hospital !

Long time ago I had my knee built. Long healing process. Technology now is light years ahead of my surgery.

Good luck.

Had my right knee scoped twice. If they do not have to do alot on the ACL ask the MD if you can watch. I had a spinal with my 1st one and it is a very neat operation. You cannot see what they are actually doing but rather the TV screen showing what the scope sees. My 2nd surgery the spinal did not take and had to go under.

My knee has been acting up for about a year now, feels like its heavy, clicks a lot, almost numb. Went to the doctor when I first felt these issues and she just gave me some pills. I started taking Shark-Cartilage the other day and it feels a little better already.

Is that the types of pains you guys had? What type of doctor did you go to? I dont want to go the wrong type of doctor that is either going to give me drugs or push unnecessary surgery.

Had mine done many moons ago. Was pretty serious as I had a ligament transplant. Had a cast on for 6 mos. The mistake I made was to not use my crutches, and I got up on it too soon. Still gives me problems. Procedure has to be much improved since mine, but it will still take you awhile to heal. Now for the good news! Riding the busa has been the best therapy for my knee. The bending and stretching as the suspension works has my knee feeling the best that it has felt for30 years! Good luck to you, I will be thinking of you and wish you a speedy recovery!

Pending whats being done, are we talking scope to repair or is there a tear in either ACL/PCL? You're talking the anterior & posterior stability of the knee. BIGGEST ADVICE: Start exercise program prior to surgery. The VMO (Vastus Medialis Obliqus) is a small band of muscle fibers on the inner part of the knee next to you knee cap. Quad sets are excellenc exercises to begin strengthening this muscle group prior to surgery. Then it will be physical therapy (make sure your physician refers you to a good therapist clinic). I'm a physical therapist by the way which is why I'm big on pre as well as post rehab. God bless bro & because you're young, expect a speedy recovery but DON'T overdoe it. It hinders the healing process and promotes more scar tissue development. Keep us posted.

I had gone to an orthroscopic specialist who does strictly Knees, ankles, hips.
Like others said above start exercising prior to build up some muscle and strenghten everything prior to surgery. i helps alot in the post surgery healing process. I didn't do it on the first operation and I did on the second and there is a difference. You have to be disaplined before and after the surgery. Afterwards if the doctor gives you the green light stick a list of home exercises to get back up and going as quickly as possible. The longer you baby it the longer it takes to get going and more of a chance of scar tissue forming that is hard to get rid of if ever. Best of luck!!

I have had many surgerys over the years. There is all types of doctors out there. Some like to say lets cut you open right away, others say lets try therapy first. You have to get an idea how bad it is and how long you have had it etc.. which is the best for you.

1993 - Left Knee - ACL MCL PCL all 3 were torn completely off the knee as a result from flipping a 93 GSXR1100. Had all 3 re-attached, was in hospital fro several days, and was in a cast for 6 weeks. had to undergo physical therapy for a few months. as someone said earlier, technology has changes alot since my surgery, so im not sure what the recovery time is now for that type of surgery.

i have a scar about 12 +/- inches long on the front inside of my knee, and about a 4-6 inch scar on the outside of my knee.
