We hear politicians use the number 1 Trillion quite often. It's also close to the dollar amount of the new stimulus package. No this isn't a thread to discuss whether we agree or disagree with the package. Put politics and differences aside for a minute and think about this one.

Let's use the figure of 1 million (1,000,000) Many of us understand how much a million dollars is. If we were to make $100,000 per year we would earn 1 million in just ten years.

Now lets look at the figure of 1 billion (1,000,000,000) This is 1 million X 1000. That's a whole boatload of cash. To put it in perspective if we were to make that same salary, $100,000 per year, it would take us 10,000 years before we ever earned 1 billion.

Now the scary part, the part that is hard for us to grasp. How much is 1 Trillion? Well 1 Trillion is 1 Billion X 1,000. To put it in perspective that is 1 million x 1 million. That is 1,000,000,000,000 yep twelve zeros on that bad boy. To put it in perspective if we were to make that same salary of $100,000 per year we would have to work 10 million years to earn 1 Trillion Dollars.

Yeah, it kind of makes your head spin to grasp just how big a number 1 Trillion is.

Alot of MOD money!

More interesting figures...

1 million seconds = 12 days

1 billion seconds = 32 years

1 trillion seconds = 32,000 years (that’s approximately 30,000 years before Christ!)

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it!

I think your math is incorrect. according to my calculations 1 trillion seconds is 761,035 years ago. I may be wrong but the calculator I used came up with that number.

Ranger is right, it is 31709.791983764586504312531709792 years.

1000000000000 seconds
divide by 60 = 16666666666.666666666666666666667 minutes
divide by 60 = 277777777.77777777777777777777778 hours
divide by 8760 (hours/yr) = 31709.79 years

Oh , I just feel asleep :laugh::laugh::lol:

It's about 900 billion more than the entire value of all the worlds estimated worth in gold. That means that the dollar is now worth somewhere in the neighborhood of a petty $0.002 and falling.
