In an attempt to rule out some crud or such sticking my starter clutch, I removed the side panel.

When I took off my fairing things were just how you see here:

guess it was the only thing holding the bolt.

removing the bolt you can see:

notice how there is a nice crack in the cover? the silver bolt there had backed out. ???

and another one for the masochist in me:

I just stopped there and loaded it up. I will pop the cover off later this week and see what else I might need.

To add insult to injury, after I loaded the bike I saw this screw in my brand new Conti RoadAttack rear tire (sorry for the cameraphone shot):

:banghead:

Man that suxs.
Something isn't wright, for that to spin out!

Before you install the new bolt, spray carb cleaner inside to clean out the oil and dirt, let it dry and use Loctite blue on the bolt.

Take it all apart on that side and inspect everything.

Sorry to see that... Hope you get it all fixed up soon....
Screw in tire....SUX... feelin' for ya....

Man I'm sorry to see that. Hopefully all the damage is minor.
