Gas Tank Removal

I've done a few searches but can't find anything. Does anyone have any tips for removing the gas tank? Do I need to drain it first? Looks like a straightforward job, but I don't want gas all over my garage. Thanks!

I always drain mine before removal. If for no other reason than dealing with a lighter tank
