Casper to Indy and Back.

well Brothers and Sisters, i made it out, and on the road.
What a great day it was!

We began about 10am, after a quick oil change. it was warm and beautiful out as we rode down I-25.
we were making good time until Jon ran out of gas 3mi from a gas station in Edgemont.
guess 112mi is his limit!

Rain clouds were looming to the north so we took a right at Hermosa and....

took the wrong road, TWICE! stupid Doris/garmin, map sucked too. the roads are not marked well/if at all, up here.

after a beautiful ride through the Bad Lands we ended up in Pine Ridge. :down: opps! i was pissed at myself, but then i remembered IM ON A MOTORCYCLE TRIP! forgit it! no worries!!!

im not lost, im just a few degrees off latitude.

we had lunched in Lusk at the Silver Dollar Bar on a pretty good Bacon Cheese Burger (i give it a 7), so when we pulled into Martin SD. around dark i thought it best to find another.

the Burger in Martin, at the Bar here is pretty lack luster. (4) but we inhaled it like it was from Choice City Butcher. we were hungry and tired.
So we got a room here in Martin. kind of a podunk little town. seem to be Indian country. lots of Indians (feather) im guessing Lakota.

the Motel is nice. it has a good shower head. too bad it was pointed at my belly button. sometimes it sucks to be tall.

I realize i should have ridden a few more miles on Bessie before this trip. i had ridden maybe 20mi on her this year. only 200mi on the Harley so far this year too. i just haven't ridden much, and now I'm paying for it!

i am kinda bummed i missed Wall SD., but there isn't much there anyway. :down:

Tomorrow we are going to cut up to I-90 and haul across South Dakota.

we woke this morning around 9am to rain and gloomy skys.
We stole the Do Not Disturb signs off the room next to us that partied and whooped in the parking lot all night, and boogied down the road.

we took a left on 73 and pushed toward Kadoka SD.

73 was a great road for bikes. rolling hills, long sweepers, and no cars. we saw all of 5 other vehicles in 50mi. The only bad part was a mile or so of construction, and it was 2" of mud!!:glare: i did fine, just stood up on the pegs and rode it out. Jon had a hard time of it. he got sideways and almost ate it.
After mud surfing we got back on good road and came over the hill to a beautiful vista of badlands with green grasses and cloudy skies.
we needed a smoke, and stopped to enjoy the view and chip off some mud.

In Kadoka we gassed and Jon ate a breakfast pizza and slammed some dew, while i enjoyed a nice coffie.

We stopped again in Murdo for lunch. I had.............A BOWL OF TURKEY NOODLE SOUP!

ok, well, Jon got the Burger so i will post a pic of his. :thumbs: he gave it a 5.

I had a hard time, making time today. Jon's Sabre has a small tank and is overloaded. He only made 60mi today before he had to pull over and switch to reserve.
a task i told him he needs to be able to do while rolling.
Soo...We stopped every 60mi or so for gas.

i guess im not used to traveling with anyone. and this is his 1st street bike. and his 1st trip!
Tonight when we pulled into Worthington Minnesota Jon was DONE.
I was just getting into my zone. I knew he needed gas so we pulled off. by the time we hit the gas station he had a plan.
"Hay Russ. this looks like a good town to stop."
Russ "We are stopped? We are getting gas."
Jon "GOOD! I saw a Days Inn with a Pool, bike shop across the street, and a liquor store next door!"

Russ "Are you done Buddy?"
Jon "Oh Hell Yes!"
Russ "Ok My Friend, we can stop. I don't wanna kill ya. (we'll save that for tomorrow!)"

so we got a room. went and had a street taco with all the Mexicans downtown. had a crummy drink in a bar that didn't serve food or allow smoking. :down:
Downtown here is strange! i didn't expect a big Latino community here. but the steak, shredded beef, and lingua tacos were awesome!

the motel had a room for us for $90 or a Jacuzzi suite for $10 more.

"Tiny Bubbles! Durinkin beer in the tub. Makes me Happy! Makes me fell Fine..."

so i spent too much on a room. but hay, we only live once! and besides, were on vacation!

tomorrow looks wet. wet and cold. i have the gear. in fact thats about all i packed.
i think i jinxed myself by mot bringing my Whall Blizzard Proof coveralls. i hope not. we will see tomorrow.
