Best radar detector

Had the Solo S2, was ok, but couldnt see the readout in the dayligh. Went to an X-50 w/Blue LED's, hardwired, and love it. Also I run my mp3 player off a "Y" cable to the X-50, so I can listen to tunes, and get alerts from the X-50 at the same time.

X-50 has a ton of great features, as stated software upgradeable, and priced nicely. I don't speed much, but the Busa is so easy to cruise with, and not know your speeding, the X-50 is a nice reminder to keep it within the limits.

I have the same mount as Rhythm but went with the Escort 8500 x50.  Read a lot of reviews and that's what made my decision...that and saved 100 dollars...I do think the arrows on the V1 are way cool so you know where he is.
So, what part of Texas are you in? DFW is so congested now, it takes an hour to find a good place to ride. My wife has a GS job, and we have a shot at Colorado or Germany. 'Fraid I'll have to take either in a minute. Wall to wall people here, and cops on both sides of the road.

I was doing about 110 down 820 (like an idiot), passed a couple of cars and there he was, sitting in the middle facing me. I thought, oh boy, here it comes. But the guy never moved. I watched him drop out of sight in the mirror. He must have been looking somewhere else. It really made me want that detector! Man that was a lucky day for me.

I use a stem Stand and a Escort Solo 2 radar laser .  They work very well but nothing works against LIDAR if they are perpendicular with you and shooting the gun as you go by.
The only thing a RADAR or LIDAR will measure, if it's perpendicular to you, is you lane wobble! You can't get an accurate readind from the side of anything. The object being measured MUST be moving toward or away from the measuring device. The further off axis, the higher the error!

That's RADAR Physics 101 for this week!

A RADAR detector won't save you from a LEO's eyes. It just gives you fore-warning if they're actually running RADAR!

There are very good LIDAR countermeasures available. Actually most experts would rather the LEOs use LIDAR than RADAR because LIDAR jammers work very good and they are legal in almost every state. Also the newer RADAR technologies work very well, such as POP, and the signals are so fast that even the best detectors struggle to pick them up.

I know several people that have the Laser Blinder installed on their cars. These things work VERY well, I have seen the tests in person. I am sure you could install one on your bike if you were really worried about LIDAR. Also check the link to the Laser Veil as well. A coat on your headlights reduces your LIDAR visablilty by up to 50%, which in most cases is enough to have your detector pick up the beam.

Based on most everything I've read the 8500 and the V1 are top-rated and very close in performance. One may have an advantage in a particular mode, band, or over certain terrain, and the other have an advantage in another - so I figure it evens out.

I went with Escort 8500 X50 mainly because it's small. The V1 arrows are a nice touch but IMHO I could care less where the cop is. When the alert goes off my main objective is to react quickly, and of course the faster you're going the more ground you're covering per second, and the less time you have to react. IMO ID'ing where the cop is located doesn't buy you anything except potentially wasting precious time.

I had an Escort 8500 X50 on my Busa. I'll be getting a Valentine 1 this winter, so I'll be able to post the differences between the 2 units.
