Who’s run aluminum, and who would run it again?
Aluminum rear sprockets are all I use since switching from OEM a decade ago. I'd have to check my maintenance log but I think they lasted about 12,000 miles of mostly sport riding on the public roads. A steel front lasts twice as long which matches the life of a good chain. I change sprockets and chain all at once and need to replace the rear sprocket one time. After the replacement rear sprocket is worn out, I replace all three items again. I have used +4 teeth on the aluminum rear sprocket and that probably increases sprocket wear a little.

Not sure why (other than $) they are all up in arms 'about only their sprockets fitting.....'

All Things Chrome told me the same thing about having to use "their sprockets". Once received, it's just a Vortex 826S-43 steel sprocket. I was also told the same about the rotor as well, which I doubt.
