I bought some rubber encased "Tractor Utility" lights at the local NAPA, took out the cheap floods, changed the wiring to 10 gauge and popped in a set of "Aircraft Landing" bulbs also from NAPA and had the most kick ass inexspensive off road light you can come up with. The rubber casings keep the vibes down so the bulbs last longer. Oh I also drilled qtr inch holes in the bottoms of the housings to let any water that gets in, out. I think I might still have the landing light boxes in the garage and the housings were like 4.5 inches...

Gimme a few

4509 Spot Aircraft Bulbs, find the bulb and then just match the housing size...

They make this type of bulb in two different sizes and two different types of lens. I always liked the larger bulb with the focused lens. Just don't leave them on when you are not moving as they will overheat.

If you mount them low they make excellent driving lights, fog is iffy, they are great in light snow but reflect back in a bad storm and almost make it harder to drive. I had them mounted on top of the bumper in front of the grill on my last F150 and they worked great but were killer to oncoming traffic.

Thanks for the advice, but I want lights specifically for fog and snow.

cheers

Then don't get white light bulbs. Go with yellow. Something like 3000k color temp. Yellow light will give you the most visibility in snow, rain, and fog because it won't light up the fog, snow, and rain, it will light up the road. White will light up the fog etc. and you'll basically be looking at a white wall and won't be able to see very well. If you've ever turned on your brights in thick fog you know exactly what I'm talking about.
