Likelihood of a draft

What do you guys think the likelihood of a draft would be? I've been talking to people lately and it seems some don't think its very probably, while some almost swear its comin'.

Being as I've turned 18 this year, my azz would be goin' to war...what do you guys think?

What would be the major factors in them re-instating the draft? (As in, what would probably have to happen for them to do so)?

i would say at this moment of time it would be very unlikely. Though now that im almost 28 years old and MAY NOT be affected if there was one:laugh:. I think a draft would actually do this country good. Actually it would be good for me to. Being forced is the only way im gonna get some exercise.

Well Thrasher I have to agree with you whole heartedly on this one..... Ill be on the side of freedom when the war breaks out...
 
If the Military budget gets cut to bare bones there may not be enough volunteers.

I think the International breaking point is getting nearer. Iran, Korea, China and others have the technology to make a run at superpower status. Russia defintely is back on track to challenge us. They all have seemed to notice that we (USA) have lost our nerve. We want to talk not fight and they don't think we have fortitude to go toe to toe in an all out conflict. We are PC, can we muster a victory with a bare bones military, against a ruthless foe without a draft? Or even with one?

I think a National Service program would be a great idea. Two years when you turn 18 after high school. Don't graduate from high school? Then do four years. Wouldn't be a military enlistment but would include some type of boot camp training and education. It would help bring us together with a common bond.

Check again:

(a) Obligation for Service- It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this title unless exempted under the provisions of this title.

There are exemptions so you might be ok but not because of your age.
 
I would serve, but at 37 I need some time to get into shape! Besides, who pays the bills while we are gone?
 
Although I pray it doesn't happen, I think that if push came to shove the people of America will stand up. There are many on these boards who are serving, and have served and would be willing to go again. :usa:
 
wait. I thought he was against war and was bringing back all the troops. So why make a draft.

Last I heard he was. But if there was a situation where we found it to be needed you can garuntee there will be one. It will be in a "defensive" situation in my opinion.

It is not very likely due to the existence of the professional army/military. The reason we have a professional military is due to the lack of jobs available for those looking to advance themselves. Blame the exportation of jobs overseas for that condition. If a viable job was available for everyone there would not be a professional army, thus necessitating a draft.
Besides that issue, the likelihood of implementing a draft would be thwarted by the political backlash against war. As a nation, we have learned that the justifications given to declare war in the last half century have not been legitimate. Will we as a people allow a draft to occur so that we can play world police? A draft that results in the senseless death of thousands of fine young Americans? A draft that results in the depletion of our treasury? A draft that does little more than fuel the defense (war industries) industrial complex? Or will we use it to legitimately defend the sovereignty of our country.

Hitler was a facist not a socialist, make up your mind Biscuit.

Hitler youth were a paramilitary group and membership was compulsory for all youth... This was not a draft, it was a walking group of kids with some authority.

They were sent to the equivalent of "Finishing" schools to prepare them for "Leadership" roles in their society.. They in fact weeded out the "undesirable" and promoted the "finest examples of the "hitler youth" onward and upward..

This is not a case of socialism or Fascism... it is "Indoctrination"

Do some research on them before you jump off the deep end of the pool...


and FYI... Nazism is Socialism and Fascism... what this has to do with the statement is beyond me....
