I wear a beenie under the helmet but my Teknic winter jacket has a removable collar that comes up pretty far on my neck or I just have a Turtle Fur from a Ski shop. It's a fleece neck wrap that work awesome as well.

a fire nomex hood works like a champ! i had the balaclava and the seams irritated the piss out of me but there are different manufacturers.
