Cool bro.. I just remember how well simichrome worked when I restored a '85 Goldwing a few years ago.

Sounds like a cool project. Keep posting pics as you go along!! I whish I didn't have the attention span of a nat. I have a 97 Intruder 800 sitting in my garage. Every time I think about getting it going again, I hope on the Busa and ride.

Im very intrested in seeing the frame when you get it back from coating!!

Holy chit! I've been working on my resto for about a month now and I've barely got my brakes and wheels off and you've already got your whole bike disassembled? I thought you were doing this to keep yourself home on weekends? YOu better slow down or you're going to have the whole thing done before November.

lol.. it's about to slow down a lot! I have to go through every little part, start ordering little dinky nuts, bolts, and plastic dressup pieces.. and start the mock up for the fiberglass seat/rear end. Also.. i'm redoing my whole wiring harness.. as it's mostly in tact, but I want to make sure it isn't completly dryrotted.

Z1 Enterprises, Inc. - Specializing in Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Parts

Check this site out when you get time.

Even though its mainly a vintage Kawi site, this place also has a Suzuki
section that may have parts for your bike. They seem to have a decent assortment of OEM and aftermarket parts and lots of weird little specialty parts that are hard to find. I know so far they've had all the stuff I needed to rebuild my calipers and master cylinders. I've made several orders from them and they seem decent - fast shipping, etc.

I was just referred to that site yesterday from the GS forum that I'm on for the restore, seems like a good place. I gotta get the list together of all the parts I need before I order.. trying to save on some shipping.

No work yesterday or today.. my back is still sore from bending down from 6 foot 3 to work on that tiny little bike!! However, this weekend, the sending and checking which parts I need to order begins!

Bad day. Two of the header bolts are broken, I tried drilling one out and using a catch bit.. no luck at all. Next attempt will be the dremel cutting a slice and using a big blad screw driver Then, the swingarm bearing would not come out, went to Advance auto parts, rented a bearing removal tool, and it still would not come out.. but it did break and all the bearings came out. The race is still in there.. any tips ? Crappy day

Heat? Maybe a torch will persuade it to come out easier.

Don't lose faith just yet. Every restoration I've done so far (a few of them) has had some sort of heart break to them. Stuck bolts, F-ed up threads, broken bolts, etc. On a quad I restored the swingarm bolt was bent so bad it was stuck in the swingarm - spent many many hours on that.

On the KZ I'm working on now all the motor side panels are held on with philips screws, and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is totally stripped. Hopefully an impact driver gets those out.

Since the motor is out I'd see if you can find a local machinist/metal shop that can work at getting that header bolt out. I have a local guy that will usually deal with something like that for a 20 spot.

ya.. i'm thinking machine shop for the header bolts, as I just don't want to deal with them, and dremel out the rest of the swingarm bearing race that is stuck. I can't wait to get it all apart and just start working with new parts.. and everything so clean and pretty (still haven't gotten the 25 year old dust/dirt/grease out from under my fingernails from this weekend!

Yep, did that with a 3000GT that I sold and shocked the guy. I've spent an awful lot of time on 'other boards' figuring out all the stuff that I may have to do to future projects.
