Maybe I don't know much about our ridiculous "confidence" economy,

Bush told the nation in a televised address Wednesday night that passage of the package his administration has proposed is urgently needed to calm the markets and restore confidence in the reeling financial system.

But I know that our economy needs to be changed if its based on "confidence".

This bailout is a complete waste of money.

A number I have heard is that it'll cost every "working" American(which I guess is becoming a minority) $7,000 each!!

Geee, I can't wait to pay my $7,000 to all the rich fatcats and then take my $100,000 loss on my house.... :banghead:

Does anyone think this is actually a good plan??

That is a whole lot of money to help some people that made bad decisions.

An economic system that allows such epic failure should not be helped to recover and continue doing business the same way.
That amount of money invested in public works and other projects would have a better effect on the american people.
This is just further plundering of the treasury and fleecing of America.

I dayum sure don't care for it. Someone (namely us , the working men & women) will surely foot the bill for all these blank checks. Dayum shame.

And I am sure no matter how much they try to prevent parting CEO's from windfall severence package, that bullshid will happen too.

Pretty much sucks from where I stand.

And for those that didn't know it I work for the part of AIG that has and continues to be profitable, or at least that's what they keep telling us to believe & say!!

??????

They already take 1/3 of my paycheck. Screw it. I'll stop paying taxes.

I agree. Let it collapse and then the people that know what they are doing will float to the surface and run things.

THANKS GOVERNMENT FOR, AGAIN, NOT LISTENING TO "WE THE PEOPLE" YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO SERVE

The people they serve is them... and just themselves...

$2,000 each

I think the difference in our numbers is this :;):

$700 billion / 350 million = 2,000 [350 million is the US's total population]

$700 billion / 100 milion = 7,000 [some estimate that 100 million actually pay taxes]

Since the money for this is coming from taxpayers, then "We the taxpayers" are paying $7,000 each :(

But there are probably fewer than 100 million paying taxes, which means we're even paying a higher amount each...

Here's an idea. Have Western Union charge and forfeit $.25/$1.00 of every money order that goes out of our country from people who don't pay taxes here and work "off the books".

Shamelessly cut and paste by me.

The Birk Economic Recovery Plan

An outstanding plan!
-----------

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college - it'll be there
Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobs
Invest in the market - capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Kindest personal regards,
Birk

PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85 Billion!!

I do not own a home, and feel I in no way have any responsibilty in helping those that do.

I have rented for years due the fact I've not been able to afford a home. Maybe I should of been one of those who believed you could buy a $200,000 home for $750 a month.

I've also heard that $7000.00 figure. What period of time is that spread out over?

I for one am tired of working my a$$ off, 60 hour work weeks, no vacations, a few toys to play with as a resuly of my labor........................meanwhile the rich get richer while I consistently seem to be poorer.

Sounds alot better to me!!!:beerchug:

Have you guys been using Bush math again?

$60 billion (after tax) going to 200 million people is $300 each. I checked it twice to be sure.

The plan you call for is $60 trillion...but hey, with Bushenomics what is a few extra 0's??

This video will better explain the math
