I use "Stream Ripper" with winamp and snag from di.fm, sky.fm, bluemars.org, shoutcast.com etc
It's practically legal this way and if you stay on over night you get GIGS before you know it

Limewire has always worked wonders for me. As matter of fact I just downloaded a whack of Led Zeppelin & Supertramp songs (I have the CD's but they are packed so I don't feel bad!) for the iPod on the road trip.
