rediculous - I have surface drives on my 43 foot boat and it runs a pair of heavy duty 502 big blocks...he needs to drop the drives a bunch and get torque not high rpm HPto run a boat
I would bet this is not a real good boat motor.. weight to power ratio is probably not very good.
Outboard motors generate a lot of power per pound.
I am sure that too much heat is not the problem they would have, not enough more likely. It is harder to make an engine run warm that cool when you have an endless supply of cool water available. We feed mountain motor boats with nothing more than a 1/2 hole in a pickup and they still have issues getting up to temp.
