also, if you use disposable cameras, make sure you get the AA battery out of it before you take the film in to be developed

First clue: It only takes 4 batteries to get 6 volts, not 32.

I would assume that some are made differently from others. I wonder if there aren't some brands that use AA and some that use the 4 pack?
 
Just because it's a 6v lantern battery, it doesnt mean that you couldnt wire them up so that 32 batteries at 1.5v each would give you 6v.   no different than how you'd run multiple batteries for high-end competition car audio systems.  I've seen 32 12v car batteries which are putting out, well, 12v. Run them in series, you increase the voltage. run them parallell, you get the same voltage but more amperage.

Some are D batteries... Some are AA and some are just long batteries. I have popped these open for a while.
