so I got a counter offer From the CEO, he is saying a 10K salary increase backdated 14 weeks. And a profit based % match, so If my area increases profit by 20% during the quarter then my pay will increase 20%. This will continue each quarte untill I reach a certain cap(not sure on the amount yet but prolly around 60 or so).

I think we may be able to increase soon, but not sure about how much, alot has to do with getting more orders in which i may be able to do with in 6 months.

Or go with the new job at a 7.5K salary increase, great potential growth, 4% 401K match, and move to new town and have to start paying rent. ??

I am sorta stuck here.... One hand a sure thing of more money with potential to get a lot more with in a year or nothing for a while and a history with layoffs. On the other hand, close to the same starting pay with potential for fast growth with a proven company that is expanding by 200 people in november??

What do you think??

Thats a tough one. Go with your gut, its usually the best choice. If your current employer is willing to match or beat your current offer from the other company, they obviously want to keep you. Question, if you dont accept the new position, will you have burnt that bridge?

You are leaving for a reason. If it is only money, take the highest bidder. If there is more to it, more money at the current employer will not fix any of the other issues.

Another consideration is that companies do not like to get into bidding wars to keep current employees.

They will always wonder if/when you will try to jack them up for more money. That may not be the reality in your case, but from an employer's viewpoint, reality has little to do with it.

I have always taken the stance that if my current job is such that, for whatever reasons, I am motivated to look elsewhere and actually get an offer that I am willing to accept, I do not go back to my current employer to see if they will match or beat it.

Trust me, they will remember when it comes time for more layoffs, or salary cutbacks, etc.

Just something to think about.

Take which ever job allows you the time to have a life. Money and comp mean nothing if you are not allowed time to LIVE life. what will you say on your deathbed? I made a boat load of cash, or I lived fully on this journey?

I just came from the CEO's office to let him know I must decline, I am gone like donkey kong!!

So now I just have to call my new HR dept and let them know I accept.

I did call and talk to my future manager, and he already has plans for me to advance quickly so that sorta sealed the deal for me. I will be making more cash with in six months than I got offered here.

Good for you... where are you heading off to? still going to be in the area or out of state? been a while and I can't remember the details anymore... sorry. lol

good choice...i think not having the possibility of being laid off every so often will be worth it...as your new company expands, you have the chance to move up also if you choose...likw WWJD said, just don't let chasing the money take over to the point where you forget to actually have a life

not far at all, just up the road in Farmington. Raytheon Missile Systems is my new employer. Gonna start out as their Sr. Tech Support Specialist, working in the QA dept making sure the stuff works like it's intended. But they are expected to open up a quality engineer position in a few months and I was told they have plans to move to that spot??

Either way I'm gonna be happy, it's a great package and they work a 9-80 schedule so 3 day weekend every other week. Lots of family time with that!!!

Sounds like you make the right choice...

small word of caution (this happened to me), if they move you into that new position, make sure you salary changes to compensate. I was moved into a new position of significantly more responsibility/duty and they gave me a standard merit raise at the end of the year and a pat on the back. 9 months later, no change.

I no longer work for that company...

yep, that why I am leaving my current job
