Smart a$$es. I use a kerosene reddy heater when it gets super cold but my garage is insulated and stays at about 60 year round.

i have a mr buddy 9000 btu portable propane heater it will take the edge off bu still chilly! i noticed they have an 18000 btu which should heat it up i was thinkin about purchasing a blue flame heater they run off either propane or natural gas they come in 10000,18000,20000,25000,30000, and also come with an optional thermostat controled blower i think the 30000 btu w/blower was 289.00 at home depot and can be wall mounted or free standing with somthin like that you should be able to work in shorts and a tshirt . we have the kerosene /electric torpedo heaters at work the fumes that come off of them are un real bearable if you can leave the garage door cracked but if it is an attached garrage you will get fumes in the house ,big time! i havnt used the propane torpedos ? the blue flame heaters are ventless .

Look for a landmark, campground, or "ace" hardware. Should only be about $8.00 to fill up your tanks.

Insulate, insulate, and insulate , or you will get big temp swings ,causes condensate bad for anything in garage. Plus it will pay for itself with the cost of fuel ,no matter what I would do it first and then would put a ceiling mount TPI electric heater with T-stat control ,last one I put in was only 3.3KW on 230Volts pulling about 12 amps heats a two car garage that is insulated well with no problem.

Forgot the good thing about this type of heat ,installed correctly you can go off and leave it and not worry ,set it on low temp and keep the temp in garage more constant.
Also you could make sure you are living on the south side of the hill if you live on the north side..where like here in Ky. you have to pipe in sunlight you will need two heaters.

Kerosene heater works real good, fast.

or you could just have the furnace heat it like in my garage. When the coal furnace was converted to Nat. Gas it makes the furnace a big radiator. Since the apartment above the garage is heated by natural convection it allows the garage (where the furnace is at) to stay a comfortable 65 degrees. It would probably stay warmer if it weren't for the lack of insulation.

It will reach about 23 degrees here today, my toys are in my shop. The shop is insulated, so rarely gets below 30, but when I am out there working, I fire up my wood stove. It'll get the space up to about 70 or so. Warm enough!
