McConnell: Mass. Senate race a health referendum

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate's Republican leader is casting the shockingly close Senate race in Massachusetts as a referendum on President Barack Obama's health care bill.

Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says that no matter who wins Tuesday's special election, the message is clear because the race is so close in the liberal state. The message, he says, is that voters don't support the Democrats' health overhaul.

The legislation has dominated the race between Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown. She supports the bill. He doesn't.

McConnell also says that whoever wins Tuesday's election should be sworn in promptly. If Brown wins, any delay in seating him could let Obama preserve a key 60th vote for the bill.

McConnell appeared on "Fox News Sunday."

Interesting to see how this one turns out. Could be a whole new ballgame
if the dems lose their coveted 60th seat and a message of things to come...

Rep win in MA.... that would be a real shocker to the left huh?

I do not think they fully comprehend the amount of anger about all this yet... I think the masses are getting fed up... (I have heard a good number of people admit regret on their vote for Obama)... interesting year coming up...

well like the article said...it's already close, that in itself says a lot.

Should a rep win....:lol: would speak VOLUMES and throw a serious
wrench in the "progressive" party. Republicans can filibuster EVERYTHING,
so maybe you might want to include them in some decisions....???

this years elections are going to be really interesting... anyone taking any bets?

you know someone will say "no one did that, it is photochopped"

Senator McConnell came very close to getting thrown out of office during the last election by his own constituents. That doesn't exactly grant a lot of credibility to his rhetoric.

I know of no one in the real world that currently supports obama's bill, but then I work in the health care industry right now... I think many have serious doubts about all the stuff attached to it and doubt it is anything but a revenue generation device for the govt...

so far it adversely affects more people than it helps... (non-insured fines, "Cadillac" plans)

not sure of the accuracy of these figures but a good starting point..

http://keithhennessey.com/2009/04/09/how-many-uninsured-people-need-additional-help-from-taxpayers/

Starting out with 45M uninsured (and all are subject to the "Uninsured" tax fine to start out)

need to know how many work for companies under $500K in wages paid a year (company exempt from mandatory coverage but employee still required to have insurance to avoid fines) to start out.. subtract the estimated "census undercount"

Apples and Oranges not that I keep up with this stuff. I think what the Dems are seeing in the polls says it all, and it's not just healthcare reform.

You've already got two Dems retiring ........... It will be interesting to see what happens. It's hard to imagine a Republican winning Teds seat..........

what's harder for me to believe is that they kept voting in Ted Chappaquiddick Kennedy to begin with.

What a pos he is (or was) anyway, not to mention his politics.

So I guess in light of that :stoopid: ,your probably right.

Im not sure where most of you get your info (guessing fox news) but the major reason why Obama was elected into office was because the people wanted change from the last eight years. They wanted war crimes to be filed, health care reform, and so on... Whats putting these Dems into a crap whole is they havn't done what the people wanted. I can't blame the people for not wanting to vote Dem again because they didn't do what the majority of the US wanted them to do. Luckily for Repubs, people have short memories and forget about the crap the Repubs have given us.

I support the Dem party as and Independent, but maybe them loosing a few seats will get there ass in gear to actually vote on a single payer that the majority of americans want. Until then, these parties aren't doing much for americans other then making us work harder for less.

Govt takeover of auto industry, banking, and healthcare. Redistribution of wealth, steal from those that work and give it to those that won't ...............hope I didn't miss to much,

Hey - Hey - Hey! Massachusetts is only 12% republican! People there can't possibly be upset enough to put an enemy in Ted's seat? Angels will fly without wings before that happens! :rulez:

I understand that the UAW union members got a little gift along with Nebraska? Like an exemption from paying the 40% tax on Cadilac Health Care Plans? Is this true? :dunno:
