Thinking about either going to +2 or +3 rear sprocket. Looking for something good for mainly street riding and occasional hitting the dragstrip. Nothing to radical. The reason want to leave the front stock to make it simpler to change to a different gear ratio or back to stock. Witch would be a better way to go?

I'm running +3 (43) on the rear with stock front...It really brings the bike alive. Wheelies are fun too. Recently, switched back to stock rear and took her for a ride.....I'll be switching back to the 43 before I ride again. Roll ons improved greatly as well. Watch the speedo though it will register 7-10 MPH faster without a yeller box, mate. Oh BTW, my buddies ZX-12 finally was able to match my top end though. But off the line I was blowing his wheels OFF!

Isn't an aluminum sprocket on the busa a poor choice? Just wondering as it doesn't seem to be a good combo with all the torque.

Not a big fan of Alum sprokets on any Busa pushing over 170hp. I certainly don't feel SS makes the best around. No refection on you but take a good look at some of the better Ti and SS sprokets from AFAm and others. SS does not make Chrom Molly for front and do not make good Steel for the rear. I have run into some bad heat treated products a few times, which got me to start looking until I found better. They do make Ti coated alum which is a good product. I know will be going to Solid Ti and solid Stainless steel.

Yes especially if you are hitting it hard. 170hp and over will just bend the rear teeth and hone down teeth on a bad heat treated front.

I would go down 1 on the front...Best sprocket mod you can do...If you really want it to smoke coming out then go 16/42 absolutely the best combo period...If you decide to go with alum on the rear check your chain and sprocket without fail or they will fail...

well. i wouldn't say that it's a bad choice...chain and sprocket wear are determined by the up keep of the two in combination...vortex sprockets are on all the velocity bikes, shootout and 60"...Barry has run the same sprocket all year without failure...i have installed them on busas that make well over 200hp without failure...if you want a sprocket that you can install and forget about it then i don't know what to tell ya...i do know that vortex are the very best aluminum sprocket on the market...don't get me wrong guys, i'm not trying to sell you something here but there are alot of people that have this way of thinking embedded in their minds because they don't have anyone to show or tell them the other side of things...do some research for yourselves and you will see...

Velocity maintains there races bikes in a meticulous manner...Most owners barely lube their chain...I did all the right things with an alum rear and it ended up looking like the knuckles of my fist...They also run multi stage and slider clutches which is not as hard on the drive train as the oem clutch set up...Also weight is an issue with them they shave everywhere they can...Do life experiences count the value as research *

what brand of aluminum sprocket did you use...there is alot more to sprocket than the material its made of...i sell all the major brands and have seen first hand by installing them and seeing how they are out of round...if you start with products that are inferior it won't matter what material it is, it's gonna wear prematurely...and it's always best to start with fresh chain when installing new sprockets...

btw...life experiences do count for research!!

I do not disagree with you, however for the day to day riders Alum is hard to maintain like you said. *Still lots of riders do not want 1 extra once of weight, which is why alum.

Also I had 3 Sprokets that were not heat treated correctly and lost 4 teeth on the front on 2 different sprockets from the same lot. I am not an expert but learn from my experience
which is why I go with the steel and titanium now. It is a lot more expensive so most likely awash in the end based on cost.
