Looking For A Radar Detector

Since we are on the subject. I am in the market for use in a car and not on the bike. I keep coming back to the Valentine. Another alternative I see is the beltronics. Any real world testers out there? I hear the Valentine is full of false signals unless set up properly. The beltronics is better at filtering false positives, but has slightly less range. Both detect POP but the valentine does not hide itself nor have GPS. Thoughts?

I am a loyal Escort consumer (insert jokes here). Which is owned by Beltronics. The best detector on the market right now is the Escort Max 360. It is detectable by police, so if your in Virginia it will not work for you. You will need the Beltronics STi. If your looking for range then the passport red line is the way to go. It is slightly better than the STI or the Max 360 but lacks some of the extra features. I run the passport 9500ix have had it for 8 years and its still as effective as the day I bought it. With the ability to update the software and database I don't see me having to replace it anytime soon. I also use it on the bike, I just have to run an ear bud so I can hear it.

I've used a V1 for years in my cars and on my bikes and it's saved me thousand$! 65,000+ miles on the Busa thru eleven states and NO tickets. You decide.

I use a Beltronics STI Magnum in my tank bag. I have a SENA SMH10 (I think that's it) so I can hear it in the SENA headset. Works great but to be honest I'm not sure Radar is much good these days. The Police are all doing the instant on thing so they are not easy to spot with the radar with enough time to slow down. Frankly if I was just 5-10 miles over I would risk it. But I often go much faster on backroads, so I got the radar. I have a switch to kill power because a police sneaking up through traffic at night can see the remote warning lights and flick their radar on and off to verify you are running radar. I'm pretty sure the Beltronics works as far as stealth, can't explain that but I'm 99% sure it works. BTW I occasionally get laser hits right through the tank bag! I'm sure this would work better with better line of sight for the unit but seems if they light you up it's too late anyway, right?

There is no way a cop can determine if someone is running a radar detector by 'flicking their radar on and off'. They don't have radar detector...detectors.

They can see the light from the remote warning module. They just flick it on and watch your warning lights. I had a friend follow me in traffic and he could see them on my dash from 3-4 cars back at night. A few people I know hid the remote warning modules better and some stopped using them and just relied on the audible warning. But the remote module stays on later and comes on earlier than the audible tone which waits for a solid hit to avoid false hits and being totally annoying. With the remote you see the light and then you are ready for a real hit. I'm not sure the police ever even bothered to get radar detector detectors around here. I have never had a Police even suspect I had one (apparently) or ask about one.

Well, I don't speed in traffic and certainly don't speed with a cop car nearby but if they see my warning lights, so what? I got tired of earbuds some years back so I use a ten LED warning light array that can probably be seen from outer space so it's very useful in bright sunlight and blinding after dark. Cops running radar are looking for speeders. Detecting them before they have zeroed in on me is the trick. My V1 does a good job at detecting long before I'm in their view.

I am in the market for a detector, and I really like 360 for features and reviews. But the "radar screamer" and other units like it all don't work with it for some reason. Anyone know why?

I am not sure, but I think that using escort live will let you get notifications through your phone via bluetooth. I hope that is the case. If so I may be looking at getting the Escort live cord for mine. If your looking for one for your bike then look at the 9500. They don't have the arrows telling what direction the alert is coming from but it is a top notch unit.

Do you know if the 360 can give radar audio alerts via bluetooth through your smart phone?

TPX been using it for 5 years now , and couldn't be more happy . Car radars are great , but not on a bike doe to their screen / vibration or lack of taking . The TPX unit is built for a motorcycle not a car .

When the app was first released it would, but it was buggy. The app would not work in the background and you would have to restart it after a phone call. I don't know if it has been fixed or not. I have never used it personally.

C10 is correct the TPX is a made for motorcycle radar detector. It's screen is positioned perfectly for motorcycles. The only problem I have is my Escort has spoiled me with its ability to eliminate false alarms.

Well, have read so many reviews today I am tired of reading. I pulled the trigger on an Escort ix. It replaced the 9500ix. The 360 was a huge draw, and I really wanted the Valentine. But the proof is in the pudding, I wanted the features on the Escort. Wish me luck, it is in the mail and I have Escort Live downloaded and ready to go. With as much highway travel I do I hope it will pay off.

TPX 2.0 radar detector

Built for motorcycles. Water proof with nice big buttons for easy glove access. Had it on my Busa for years with no issues. Nowadays a lot of cops are using the instant on so if your flying triple digits it won't be able to save you even with a couple moments heads up. I still use it for piece of mind. I'm more worried about those 10-15 mph tickets. Around my way there's a lot of speed limit changes in a very short span of road.

I think you will be very happy with your choice. Once you become accustomed to it would you please give your opinion on the app. I am very interested in knowing if I can get alerts through my phone to my headset. I already ride with my phone synced so I can listen to music and it would be great if the app would interrupt that if there was an alert.
