Rally / Racing With Gen-1 Daihatsu Sirion (city Car)

nice!!! Keep em coming.
Thank you very much ....

Very cool project.
Thank you very much ....

Cool project.
I can't see it handle well with the engine mounted to one side.
I see what looks like a drive shaft mount on the sprocket shaft, and I understand that's why the engine is where it is. As the driveshaft would be centered in the car.
Making a rear drive car. Correct?
I would think that there isn't much room to put the driveshaft at a slight angle, as opposed to straight down the center of the car where it appears to be?
Which isn't the ideal fix, but would help center the engine's weight in the front of the car.
I've never seen a shaft driven, front engine, rear drive, motorcycle engine powered car conversion.
  • Yes, it would be a rear drive car
  • Yes, you are correct, the engine has been slightly moved to the left side.
  • If I moved the engine to the right side, it will interfere with the Steering Arm, as the rack and pinion are located at the back of the tire and not in front of the tire

Cool project.
Not to say it can't or hasn't been done, but that the off centered weigh problem, due to engine placement, is a lot of work to correct.
Maybe I'm way off, and no disrespect intended, just curious.
  • Thank you very much for the points that you raised !!! Points taken.
  • Tomorrow we will weight the total weight as well as weight on individual tire.

Cool project.

Hayabusa Gen-1 HOLESHOT ENGINE has been placed inside the engine bay of Daihatsu Sirion Hot Import Nights (HIN). It is a Small city car !!!

228441_1475437709.jpg

As you can see, the engine sits quite low in the engine bay.
This is what we wanted, to have the Hayabusa Gen-1 from HOLESHOT RACING sits low
This way, we think we would not need to cut the engine hood for the air-filter, etc.

228441_1475778142.jpg

Before the final welding of the engine mounting bracket support we took a look of everything to make sure everything would be ok and that the engine in this case Oil Filter, Buttom Clutch Master Cylinder, Shifter, etc is not blocked by anything else.

We found out that the lowest pick-up point on the Hayabusa Gen-1 HOLESHOT RACING engine is a 2 inches lower than the lowest bottom of the chassis.

Initially, we were planning to cover the whole bottom of the ca (from front bumper to rear axle) with aluminum plate (aluminium deck) to protect everything underneath. The oil pick-up point on the oil-pan surely would interfere with the aluminum plate (aluminium deck). Therefore, our choice :
  1. We would have to lower the aluminum plate (aluminium deck) by 2.5 inches, which is such a pity because it would decrease the overall ground clearance
  2. We would intall the aluminum plate (aluminium deck) on its original place and cut-off the area around the oil pick-up point on the oil-pan, which is not good, since the car is going to be used on dirt sprint rally in which there are many rocks, etc. If the oil-pan is broken, then its GAME OVER for the race and surely GAME OVER for the whole engine.
  3. Re-design the engine mounting so that the whole engine is higher by 2 iches.

228441_1475783766.jpg

After long discussion with Dana and Riski of Dana Suspension Specialist and DSS GARAGE, we all agreed that re-designing the engine mounting is the best choice, rather than risking everything

Dana Suspension Specialist (DSS GARAGE) made a new engine mount and at the same time we level the car and make sure the GEN-1 Hayabusa Engine from HOLESHOT RACING (ie. the oil pan) sits level (horizontal). The new engine munt increase the engine by 2.5 inched, so that we still have spare of .5 inched between the aluminum plate (aluminium deck) and GEN-1 Hayabusa Engine from HOLESHOT RACING Oil Pan.

228441_1475778310.jpg

We level the GEN-1 Hayabusa HOLESHOT Engine and take a note on the degree on the head cover

228441_1475778462.jpg

We also make sure that engine sits level vertically (Front to Rear)

228441_1475778540.jpg

We check the long engine mounting bolt on the transmission that it sits vertically between front and rear

228441_1475778564.jpg

As this is almost done, we also decided that based on ready many discussion in this forum that :
  1. We will use some-kind of pressurized oil accumulator system on the Hayabusa GEN-1 engine from HOLESHOT RACING
  2. We will modify the original Hayabusa GEN-1 OIL PAN around the Oil Pick-Up area to increase the capacity and make some sort of baffle.
  3. Once this is done, we will then modifiy to lenghten and reroute the Oil Pick-Up so that it sits in the area in the pan, where oil is most likely there.
Yes we know that there are lots of people selling custom Oil-Pan and Oil-Pan Baffle, but then again, we are located only 18-hours flying from the US / Europe and buying those things would end-up cost us 200% of the stated price due to air-freight, luxury tax, etc/

We will keep you update on the design and welding process on customizing the Oil-Pan from Hayabusa GEN-1 engine from HOLESHOT RACING

OFF TOPIC.,

Offroad Racing is my passion, I race long time ago and then with Dana Karya of www.dssgarage.com specializing in suspension set-up (Coilover from Kingshocks, Radflow and any other coil-over shocks), then built full tubular race car.

I have been working with Inline-6 Jeep from standard 4.0L strocked to 4.9 and modified Chevy 350, LS-1, LS-3. LS-6 with standard ecu, piggy back, haltech, etc.

BUT NEVER with HAYABUSA engine, and the cabling as well as people said about many safety swiches and ecu limitation really confuse me.....

This is our race in Indonesia.,

The Daihatasu Sirion is a city car with Front Engine and Front Wheel Drive System.

We decided to convert into Front Engine and Rear Wheel Drive System.

Initially we wanted to run Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Set-Up on the car. We were thinking of getting a ready to bolt on Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Set-Up with SUB-FRAME tipe such Subaru, Evo, etc.

This SUB-FRAME Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Set-Up already has anything within the sub-fram, so what you need to do is bolt all those 4-bolts on the sub-frame into the existing frame.

However due to time constraint in finding a decent Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) Set-Up with the right gearing and also the cost of getting such nice Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) SUB-FRAME Set-Up, we decided :
* We are going to install SOLID AXLE with limited slip which we have lying around un-used in the shop
* Next Year, once everything is running good (Engine, Electrical, etc) then we might convert it into Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)

So far, what we have done in terms of convertion :
* Taking off the front diff
* Taking off the front axle
* Modification of Shock Tower and installing ISC COILOVER Camber Plate
* Installung ISC COILOVER with 6” Suspension Travel
.
* Taking off the Dummy Rear Axle
* Replacing Dummy Rear Axle with SOLID AXLE which ahas LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (LSD) as well as lots of gearing ratio (3.10 - 4.10)
* We will then install DISC ROTOR and DISC BRAKE

REAR AXLE :

For sure, Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) would be a much comfort susepension both on tarmac or off road.

Dana Karya, Riski and myself from Dana Suspension Specialist (DSS GARAGE) has been designing and installing 4-Link system with UPPER TRIANGULATED ARM with a combination of LOWER PARALLEL ARM in many race cars such as Speed Offroad, Sprint Rally, Road Race (Jeep Based, SUV Based and even Sedan)

4-Link design with UPPER TRIANGULATED ARM and combination of LOWER PARALLEL ARM is very common in cars converted from leaf spring into coil spring, because this design is simple and strong, with the capability of lots of suspension traver, while still giving good handling on straight as well as on turn with body roll.

REAR AXLE :
We use several Suspension Design Software to design the mounting point of the 4-Link with UPPER TRIANGULATED ARM combined with LOWER PARALLEL ARM.

OIL ROUTING.

Guys.,

Is the picture on the RIGHT SIDE is confirmed the best way for OIL ROUTING for HAYABUSA GEN-1 Engne ?

ZRPV8zsZ.jpg

PS : Using the RIGHT PICTURES, do I TAKE-OUT the blocking plug on behind the oil-filter, OR LEAVE IT IN

Thank you very much for any comment on this....
