Why we ride. A Pashnit Tour.

Then head over to ride a personal favorite - Titlow Hill Rd.

Robert on the Ducati

It's always the look that says it all.

Img_0174_FR1_jeff.jpg

And the view. That's the snow capped Trinity Alps in the distance.

Time to ride Hwy 96

Eventually ending up on Scott River Rd- another personal favorite.

Img_0222_ScottRiverRd.jpg

k, now watch this. Quickie photo pointer. See this shot? Not bad. Okay. Scenery sort of stuff. Got your flowers in the foreground, river, mountains, etc, etc. Yadda yadda.

Img_0224_ScottRiver.jpg

Trying something a bit different. Little better. See the riders? This one tells a better story.

Img_0226_ScottRiverRd.jpg

Now watch this. Remember that 'super-macro' button? Trying something a bit different. This one is just plain neat.

See the bee?

Img_0227_ScottRiver_bee.jpg

Img_0328_Day3.jpg

Now imagine waking up to this.

Img_0238_MtShasta.jpg

Throw in a bit of this.

Img_0239_GazelleCallahan.jpg

Couple signs like these. Don't forget the bullet holes.

Img_0241_GazelleCallahan.jpg

Then mosey on down a couple of these.

Img_0243_GazelleCallahan.jpg

This is Gazelle Callahan Rd, a really relaxed ride up and over the range.

Img_0246_GazelleCallahan_sign.jpg

Past a couple ranches.

Img_0247_GazelleCallahan.jpg

A few mountain tops.

Img_0245_GazelleCallahan.jpg

A few enticing side roads. This is Rail Creek Rd. Heads off into those mountains. Dual-sports apply here.

Img_0244_RailCreekRd.jpg

I know it's the NorCal Wonderland when we see this come clopping down the middle of the road.

Img_0248_cowboy.jpg

He lived just around the bend in Callahan. Out for a morning stroll. Or clop. Ride actually.

Kevin seems to capture the moment well.

Img_0249_horse.jpg

Where ya'll from?

Img_0251_cowboy.jpg

The real deal.

Img_0252_boot.jpg

There are many mysteries in life. Unexplained things.

But why the dog pee'd on my bike, we'll never know. What's up with that.

Img_0253_dogpee.jpg

Onward up Highway 3 & towards Weaverville. Fun road. Long, hyper, than relaxed. Good stuff.

Img_0254_Hwy3.jpg

Tim two up on the FJR

What much of NorCal is like.

Img_0257_Hwy3_riders.jpg

Few of these too. Empties into Cair Engle Lake.

Img_0260_creek.jpg

Richard & Steve on Hwy 3

Img_0261_Hwy3_riders.jpg

Now picture the shot of the creek above. Now add in this.

These are tailings. Mounds of rock left over from clam-shell dredging, all in the search for gold. This entire region of California is heavily ladden with gold. Much of it still remains in these creeks and rivers.

Img_0263_TrinityLake.jpg

Craig though isn't much concerned with the tailings in the background. Just the ride.

Img_0264_CraigBusa.jpg

A turn east onto Trinity Dam Blvd, and a quick ride over to Clair Engle Lake. A massive reservoir created in the reservoir building days few decades ago.

Later... more of this. Good ole Steve

Img_0287_Steve.jpg

One year ago, came up here and was only able to make it to the first parking lot due to all the snow. This year, the pass was already open. I was looking forward to playing in the snow.

Img_0333_LassenSign.jpg

And checking out the sulphur smelling vents...

Img_0306_Lassen.jpg

...and the boiling mudpots.

Img_0300_LassenMudpot.jpg

The view? Incredible!

Img_0303_Lassen.jpg

The ride up to the near 9000 ft summit

Img_0307_Lassen.jpg

Pictures don't do it a bit of justice in capturing the sensation.

Img_0310_LassenView.jpg

The riders climbing higher to the summit- getting closer to that near 9000 foot crest.

After all that ridin', let's eat!!

...End Day 3

Up & at 'em- down Hwy 70, the Feather River Canyon

Img_0337_Hwy70_bikes.jpg

Img_0342_Hwy70Bikes.jpg

Only to discover Wes was riding around on 16 psi of air in the rear tire having picked up a nail.

Cycle Pump to the rescue.

Img_0340_Wes_CyclePump.jpg

All pumped up, back onto Hwy 70 and through several tunnels.

Always interesting to ride past a sign for the high water mark, which is 6 feet above the road.

Img_0344_Hwy70Tunnel.jpg

Awhile back, I was contacted by a reporter with the local FOX TV station. Louisa does a program called FOX40 Outdoor Adventures and thought the rides we do would make a great piece. Sounds good to me.

Yours truly & Louisa

Img_0354_Louise.jpg

Since they needed to get a good variety of footage for the piece, I know just the road and we took them up the Oroville-Quincy Hwy to the top of the mountain nearing Bucks Lake. Never shot any pics of the road, but here's some pics from the previous ride through here.

This is what I had in mind when they asked for a place to get some good ride footage of all the bikes.

Img_3511-Oroville-Busa.jpg

Img_3510-Hwy162.jpg

After all the ride footage, we set up shop with that view above in the background to get some interviews.

Img_0376_TwoBike.jpg

Yours truly...

Img_0367_Interview.jpg

So why do we ride? She wanted to know. The viewers want to know.

And what does it feel like to ride a motorcycle? What is it about them that makes us ride the way we do. Spending four days riding around this Northern California Wonderland with a bunch of like-minded riders.

Out here you can leave it all behind. Whatever it is that needs to be left behind. It's the sense of motion, of openess, the bullet-like sensation of the busa. It's a machine you wrap yourself over the top of- and you ride it. All 165 hp. Maybe it's not an easy question to answer with a quick few words. Maybe it should be.

I don't recall exactly what I said. But when I look over the 400 some pics I shot, I think the answer doesn't really consist of words. 1200 Miles come and gone. It's a passionate thing.

Img_0364_Interview.jpg

The piece is suppose to air in July '07, and was promised a copy. Will have to post it up when get it.
