Default "Volunteer" Corps

It puzzles me why Obama calls the Service Corps a 'volunteer' service, yet it REQUIRES all youth, adults, and seniors to do community service for the government. Sounds more like slave labor to me. What happens if you decline?

Enjoy your "Change".

Obama Civil Service Corps

Hmmm, if the description is accurate it sounds like it would be the governments own personal military that would be seperate from the laws the govern our current military structure.

Interesting..

I am thinking if a person were to decline a "mandatory" service it will probably mean jail time. some kind of bad spot on your record that could hinder getting a job. that is what they normally do.

BTW - I ran across that information (the intitial plans) before the election.

So I am not surprised it is being followed through with.

for better or worse I see my children growing up in a world totally differant from the one I grew up in. with a lot less freedoms and way more control and monitoring.

somebody laughed at me when I mentioned brown shirts pre election.. guess the giggle should be laughter now huh?

funny enough, I think most kids could use 2 years compulsory service in the military to learn a bit of respect and responsibility.. go figure.. (they are not to enforce laws here)

Yes, it amounts to I think a 100 hours maybe, I think the manadatory service that President Obama is envisioning is something like 2 years or more. and it wouldnt be after school like it is to graduate from highschool, we are talking a minimum of 2 years of dedicated volunteer service. The way I read it on President Obama's pre-election web site was it would be sort of like the draft.

At least that is what I had read pre-election

I think this goes back to..... its the parents responsibility to teach this not the government. Go figure lazy people now get free: housing, food, clothing, education, child care and parental advise, all subsidized by people who make their lives what they are by hard work and values that are core in their lives.

That bill can kiss my fat butt. I'm not volunteering for a thing like that. Neither are my children. I will pack up and leave the freaking Country. I love this place, but I refuse to be dictated to.

There needs to be, and will be an uprising on this one.

I know I said I wouldn't say anything negative about Obama, but if this is the crap that is being pushed, the he needs to go. The man is a freaking dictator as far as I can see. He is completely ignoring and going around everything our Country was founded on.

Am I pissed? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone is interested, here I President Obama andd VP Biden's web site that describes their vision for public service.

They says "Enable All Americans to Serve to Meet the Nation's Challenges" "D

Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | Service

In this section they describe how they plan to increase the size of the military

Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | Defense

They intend to increase the army vy 65,000 and the Marines by 27,000

not really sure what the will do differant, we (the military) is struggling with recruitment issues as it is, and it isnt really like the DoD is turning too many away. People just are not joining. so not really sure how they plan on accomplishing building out military up in adition to creating a "volunteer" force. but it will be interesting to see how they pull it off.

As I said, exciting times ahead..

I am right there with you Revvv.

To be honest I feel like the republicans are really letting us down. I am not seeing much opposition.

If you find a place that is better than here let me know. Because I will probably be right behind you with family in tow.

I am just doing my best to brace for the storm. And hoping for the best, humans do tend to look at the worse case scenario, so who knows, maybe things wont turn out as bad as they look like they might (in regards to our personal freedoms)

I will add that I am confident that in President Obama's mind he is doing what he honsetly feels is best for this country. I was not and am not an Obama supporter, but everyone has to admit that President Obama did not take office and everything turned to crap.

Everything turned to crap before he took office. Nothing our government was doing prior to him becoming president was working.

This means that doing the same things as past administations were not going to accomplish much more.

While I personally am cringing at some, or alot of the decisions being made, for one, they are not JUST his decisions, they are a team of people working on this with him being the figure head.

And two, at least he is doing something and it isnt the same ol song and dance that has gotten us into this mess.

And to be honest, we got where we are today by certain policy's. it is obvious those policies were not working and everything that is going on now is pretty much total opposite of those previous policies.

I have sooooo gone back and forth about all this, because I see the good and the bad in all that is happening, but to be honest, I think I am finally getting to a point where I am at peace with most things, trusting in God that whatever happens is his will and just preparing and bracing for whatever happens. Because what ever happens, in the end God allowed it to happen, God allowed President Obama to become president so there is a bigger picture than I have a clue to.

So I will just go to work every day, love my family, do my part to get my bills under control, voice my concerns in a legal manner that is afforded me by the constitution and let the chips fall where they may

i see no problem with mandatory service....

i see no problem with military draft.....

this country would be better off if, instead of listening to liberal actors, proffessors and everybody else young people actually got out of the house and visited the world....

so they could see the crap existance of most of the population of this planet, experience "real" racism, fascism....socialism, communism. this would teach them to appreciate what they have, and to particpate as good citizens.

Your right. Military service has a way of making a person "man up" or "woman up"

The best thing I had done in my life was joined the Marines. right off the bat you are given responsability and taught to except the responsabilities for your actions.

So I have no problems with the draft either. I did however tell my sons if they brought the draft back, their best option would be to join a service they wanted to serve in, not wait to be drafted
