Default Powerlet gloves

I currently have a Gerbing jacket liner and am interested in the Powerlet gloves and a Powerlet plug for my gear and battery tender.

My liner uses coax connection right now. Any problems integrating and which outlet works best on 08 Busa?

Coax is coax, same goes for SAE, or the other common connectors. Other common ones are Powerlet (aka BMW) outlet. The Cigarette style outlet is slowing going away.

The one that has been retired though is the Widder outlet as they went out of business in Dec 08. Can't get that stuff anymore.

As for which outlet works best, you've got several different options. One is do you want to install a permanent dash mounted outlet on the busa? You can if you'd like- Sell a whole bunch of versions of them, plus some are non-dash mounted. Take a look here:

The PKT-046 is likely the most universal, and most popular coming in various lengths. You'd run that off a fuse block, or a simply connect direct to battery.

What's good is more and more bikes are coming out with these power outlets already installed. Buell and BMW are quick examples coming from the factory with Powerlet outlets already installed.

I just wired my heated gear to use the same type as the Battery Tender plug. It hasn't failed my over two winters.

Here's a shot of my ole ST1100 with two of the Powerlet outlets installed side by side on the left there. If you opt to go this route, you could use the PKT-046 kit on the Busa, and install it permanently in the dash panel. In this example, you'd plug your power accessory directly into the outlet.

Another common place to install these Powerlet outlets is on the left side of the bike like the one pictured here. So when you mount up, you can just plug your heated garment in that way. Location varies by bike of course, but there's several versions of these.

Or as Doug mentions, you could go with the universal SAE connector. I have one of these in the rear of the busa as a spare to hook up stuff like the Cycle Pump air compressor or any other electrical gadget.

I'm assuming your Gerbing vest/liner came with a Troller. Powerlet makes several versions of these:

So to run the gloves, all you'd likely need is a splitter or more likely the Powerlet heated gloves would plug directly into the liner.

Here's how I did mine: On the busa, I kept it real simple with the Widder vest, and ran fused hot wire directly off the battery, and exited it right in front of the seat. The Widders are lower wattage, only 38 watts, so no troller is needed.

In this pic, you can see the Widder plug hanging there (just unplugged).

However with the 100 Watt Powerlet Liner or Gerbing Liner (Warm n Safe also the same), you'll need a troller so I'm assuming you've already got one.

On the K1200R I had for awhile, rigged up a nice coax setup with a Powerlet Troller. Normally these are designed to have on your person, but opted to install it in the dash area. Needed to buy a coax extension cable.

This attaches to the battery, then run the power cable through the bike.

You also have option to install a fuse block too. Bike already had one, but they were all used up.

So attached the Troller to the bottom of the radar mount.

So current exiting the Troller wiregets routed back through the bike under the tank & exits directly in front of the seat. That way, just have the Coax plug exposed. Sit down on the bike and plug in.

From there the heated gloves can be plugged directly into the heated liner, and all controlled by the troller on the dash. Worked great!!

Lastly, this gets into the various adapters. Assuming your battery tender uses the SAE universal connector, you could use the one mentioned above like I have on the Busa, or an adapter to convert SAE to Powerlet plug which you could just plug the battery tender directly into your Powerlet Outlet.

This is the one I've got on the bike to use with the Battery Tender

Wow! I thought you missed this topic. Lots of good info. I lost my troller last year, so I have been using a switch. My vest has a coax connection and already has connectors on the end of the sleeves for gloves, so I am set there.

I like the idea of attaching it somewhere on the bike. Gotta figure a spot. Do I have to worry about using gloves and liner, since that is over 100w on high. Gonna put in a 35w HID low beam and just finished the led tail light.
