Talking Pashnit Ride Video with new GoPro Hero Camera

Enjoy

Jazzed about this camera system. Have fiddled with ride video for several years now. I just got this new GoPro Hero video camera to work with. Will post up some pics on setting up and ideas on gettting 'the shot'. I also own a two other bullet cam style DVR systems for the bike, but this is a new approach with no wires, ruggedized and very small.

The video is 170 degree wide angle so new perspective than the ole bullet cams we've been using. Shoots 5 mp photos, and one feature I haven't tried yet is it'll shoot a photo every 10 seconds. The bike in the vid is a BMW K1200R, same bike as the K1200S which was BMW's answer to the Hayabusa- though not nearly the grunt horsepower of the busa. The bike has proved to be a good camera platform as it has a lot mounting points for the flexible arm I put the camera on.

New Buy Now page for the camera system is here.

Hmm, maybe youtube does a limit on how many views per day?

I can see it now, works just fine.

If you try to launch the video and get that message, simply hit the HQ button at the bottom (right) on the screen. The video will load and play.

Nice work, Tim! Like your choice of music, too!

Just in case you can't view that vid above, I uploaded the raw file you can download. It's 70M but if you have broadband, that's easy. Didn't pay much attention to file size since YouTube automatically compresses the file.

Btw, these are screenshots from the vid, the gopro also has a photo-every-10-seconds feature, which I haven't even tried yet. Looking forward to fiddling with that too.

Fitz, I don't know much about editing video, I've done basic stuff before (import & add caption and beginning and end). This one was a bit more investment of time for me to get a good promo vid for the new GoPro Hero that's been added to the lineup in the PashnitMoto.com store.

I just went to Office Depot and bought whatever they had on the shelf. So best one they had for $100 was Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 - Platinum Edition. My advice is don't get the cheapy one (another was $50) as you lose handy features that make your life easier.

Sony Creative Software - Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition - Introduction

You get a familiar Windows based screen like this. The learning curve for me was about 1-2 hours, not bad really to figure out how the program works. You import the raw video from the GoPro which is an .avi file, drop it into video tracks.

The 5 track layers here are how the vid gets created. There's one for music, the actual raw video, the text overlays and so on. Those curved lines are the transitions, where the video fades from one clip to the next. See the X on the middle right - that's the cool transition where the two clips overlay. The synchronizing the music highs and lows to the action of the vid is easy- you can slide the music track back and forth and the Vegas program shows you the highs-and-lows of the sound. Match them up to the action, and you get a great seamless feel.

The white track in the middle is the sound of the motor, which varied from place to place based on where the GoPro Hero was mounted. In the end that worked out great to my surprise as the motor sound fades and rises throughout the video. Overall for a $100, great outcome.
