Default Low/High Beam Question

Hey guys. I'm new to this forum. Just bought a left over K8 about 4 days ago. Absolutely love the bike. I was wondering though, anyone else who has a K8 or newer, when you turn on your high beam does the low beam stay on? The owner's manual and wiring diagram appear to indicate that it shouldn't but mine does. Just wondering if this is some error in the manuals or if I should bring it back to the dealer. Thanks guys!

Yes, the low stays on with the high. What in the manual makes you think it shouldn't?

Thanks guys. That makes me feel better. Yeah the owner's manual says "Holding the dimmer switch between HI and LO position will light both HI and LO headlight beam. This operation can damage the motorcycle." Weird.

Welcome to the forum.

About the lights, only one is supposed to be on, either dim or bright. It's explained in small print in the back of your book. During the run in period, both are on during bright. After run in you are supposed to change that as per the manual, it puts more amps through the high beam and switches off the low beam.

To do this after run in, follow the instructions on page 413.

It's explained as follows:

"After 1,500 miles, crest a small hill at 160mph, while both wheels are airborne, change from bright to dim three times and the ECU will recognize experienced rider mode and switch the light circuit to 'post run-in' mode."

Seems the high beam would be shiddy by itself anyway, more of a long distance laser pointer of sorts to me. The low spreads a nice flat beam directly in front of the bike for about 150' then fades out where the high beam takes over and puts out a more central beam directly in front of the bike up to about 400'.
