I've seen this way to often. And No the factory does not always use thread locker on the spring studs. You should clean and dry the spring studs, use high strength "Red Locktight" on the studs. Note that depending on your application Barnett clutches may not last as long as OEM clutches.
I"ve done 30 pluss engines top to bottom, I suggest you spend your money on an experienced builder. One small clip jumps out and you could lose the whole motor !
I work at the "House of The Mouse" building engines to be used in a car application. After 30 or more engine builds we are starting to see the intake camshaft shear off - break in two pieces. The shaft breaks in the same spot, left end just inside the cam support tower.

Check the drainplug when you change the oil. The magnetic insert will catch any gear debris and let you know how much trouble your in. Make sure the noise is engine related, and not axel or drive chain related. I seriously doubt that the tranny is damaged unless you have missed shifts noumerous...
