So, I'm getting help with my "lifestyle change" (I refuse to call it a diet this time for fear that it won't work!). I want to lose at least 25lbs before the Fall bash. Ideally would prefer 40lbs, but don't want to take too big of a bite.

Who wants to join me?

I think it would be great to have a bunch of us doing this. That way we all have accountability partners.

Mrs. 00BusaTX (Shannon) and I are hoping to lose 20 before the bash. Â*We both have health reasons that make losing weight difficult at best, but we're trying. Â*I'll check with her and see if she wants to jump on for this.

My weight can fluctuate as much as a whole pound day to day. Â*But I figured my BMR today and have a food plan which includes more veggies and not so many food orgies on the weekend with Shannon and 00BusaTX. Â*It's rough when one works for a restaurant company and there is food everywhere!

Anyway, long winded way to say that I'm game! Â*Here are a couple websites that are actually pretty helpful:

BMR Calculator It gives you credit for sitting around which I thought was odd, so I cut off about 200 calories from the total it gives.

Calorie King Has calorie values for tons of foods including restaurant items. Â*They're pretty accurate.

Calorie Burn Values Â*Gives a good idea of how many calories you burn for specific activities.

A good rule - 1 pound = 3500 calories. So if one reduces calorie intake by 500 cal/day, one will lose 1 pound per week. Add a well designed exercise program that includes cardio and weight training and that can more than double. (I have a coworker with a degree in kinesology).

Glad to have you aboard! I'm looking forward to trying more of my PC recipes. Weight loss is a great excuse to try them in my book.

I have a great recipe that even Dave likes that uses asparagus and phyllo. YUM!

I wanna join!! I need an exercise buddy!! I used those whole 7 wks that I was pregnant as an excuse to pig out and gain 15 pounds....Well last week after I had the miscarriage, I still have the extra 15 pounds!!

Not to be too needy, but if y'all want to post daily get off your rear and walk or ride your bike incentives...It would be wonderful!!!

I like to experiment when I cook. I've gotten much better and making up my own recipes. We definitely need to share when we find one that works.

I agree!

I threw together a speg. sauce last night that was really actually good! And the awesome thing of it all...My lil man actually ATE and ENJOYED the mushrooms and olives in it!!! He still picked out the big chunks of tomato, but hey I am making progress!

I loved the soup that WW had in their booklet. It's just broth and vegetables. There was just something about it. It was soooooo simple! LOL.

This is one from a book I have that I haven't tried yet, but want to this weekend:

It's a Turkey/Spinach Salad

8oz 98% fat-free turkey breast
1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
1 mango (I'll use an apple) cut in 1/2 in cubes
2 hard-cooked egg whites coarsely chopped
1/4 small red onion
6oz fresh baby spinach leaves
1/4 cup sliced almonds (toasted)

Let me know if any of you try it.

I am up for it. Â*Just a word of caution for those of us who think more is better. Â*Stick to the 500 cal less a day plan. Â*If you think 1000 cals a day would result in more weight lost, Â*NOT good. Â*It can actually make you stall or gain weight. Â*My doc told me last month, low (exercise) and slow (weight loss). Â*I will increase as I build up my muscle strength. I am on the "evil Merry-go-round" right now with being "morbidly obese". Â*I am definitly looking for a good place to jump off and break the cycle of insulin resistance and PCOS. Â*I am getting closer though. Â*I have been making little changes here and there.

Just a little side note. Â*I have had thyroid problems for many years. Â*Last month the doc did a blood test and my numbers came back NORMAL. Â*Now, I hadn't taken any meds for my thyroid in over a year. Â*So how can they be normal. Â*But hey, I wont look a gift horse in the mouth. Â*I will take it and be grateful. Â*The only thing I had done differently in the last year was to Â*not eat as much broccolie http://www.content-articles.com/article....mlÂ*and pretty much eliminated all soda. I drink iced tea (no sugar) and water now. Â*Once in a great while I will have a soda. Â*But not the 4-5 cans of caffein free diet coke I was drinking a day. Â*More like a 20 oz bottle of diet coke, once every 2-3 months.

Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*

Okay...I'll join (plus the Dr. just told me my cholesterol is high... )

My goal is 65lbs.... or to fit into my size 14 Leather Joe Rocket Trixie pants (which ever comes first) I started at 220lbs and want to see 155lbs again.

I've been treadmilling it since June 16.. working my way up to 15 miles a week. (3 miles a day, 5 days a week). This is my first week of doing the full 15 miles.

I am also using the Couch to 5K running program (and I look like a WATER BUFFALO running) that is a podcast (he tells you when to run, when to stop, cool down, warm up.. all of that set to good workout music) After 8 weeks you are supposed to be able to run a 5K in under 40 minutes. Right now I am doing 3 miles running/ walking in about 46 minutes.

I'm giving it a shot.. school starts back in 2 1/2 weeks so that is probably gonna throw my schedule off. But I have committed to myself that no matter if it is 11PM when I get home I will do my 3 miles EVERY DAY. (right now my off days are Monday and Saturday and I weigh myself on Monday Mornings). Good luck LADIES!! I'm excited I finally have someone to be accountable to!

Start
June 16 - 220lbs.
July 14 - 215lbs.

Oh yeah... and as far as eating.. I gave up soda at the beginning of the year (not hard since I didn't drink that much anyways). I've been able to gross myself out enough that I won't touch Chocolate, French Fries, or Hamburgers... and now tacos are a struggle for me to get down. (I won't go into details about how I gross myself out... but most of you know my liver and tobacco spit theory)

Now I am eating smaller portions, slowing down eating, stopping when I am full, and not feeling so GUILTY when I throw food away. Oh yeah.. and drinking A LOT OF WATER...

Jules,

One of my PC recipe books is all about eating healthy....which is where the salad came from. It tells you which recipes are low sodium, low cholesterol, low fat, etc. If you would like I'll post a few here for you to try. Dave's cholesterol was high for a while as well. He cut down the cream in his coffee (eventually had none) and just made small changes. He lost quite a bit.

By the way, this thread started with Purple offering to help me out, so I think she deserves a WAHOO!

I did really well yesterday until Dan and I stopped for dinner. Â*Chinese buffet. Â*It's not necessarily the amount I ate (1 plate with 1 spring roll) it's the ingredients on that plate. Â*And the salt. Â*Remember, I said my weight can fluctuate by a couple pounds each day? Â*Yep, you guessed it, I'm 2 lbs heavier today than yesterday because of the amount of salt in my dinner. Â*Before than, I had eaten 700 calories all day. Â*My dinner probably kept me under my 1700/day limit, but the salt turned me into a camel. Â*I know it's all water weight, but it's still there...dag nabit!

So, I'm going to see if I can get Dan to go to the gym with me today and sweat some of it off.

But lots of veggies from the grocery store today. Yea!

Yea, a while back I found a picture of what the inside of your heart looks like from high Cholesterol. NOT pretty. Most of the time, I just think about that and it helps. But you know when hormones start talking and you want Chocolate, the only thing to do is have some. Just watch the quanity.

Thanks for the tobacco recall. Yuck.

Good luck ladies.

Sorry about the sodium overload. Looks like you got it under control now. So hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow.

That picture of Purple (Jess) in her bikini next to the Viper is my motivation picture. I want legs like her one day (boobs like those would be nice too )

I've done pretty good today... my 1 cup of Special K, 1/2 cup of fat free milk, 2 figs, and a nectarine here in a few minutes. Tonight will be the battle.. we are goign to the Gulf Coast Sport Bikes club house where everything is marinated in Dales seasoning and grilled... hot dogs, hamburgers, and ribs. Then whatever else he brings out. wish me luck... 3 miles further today... total of 45 miles since I started.... wow I'm halfway to Mobile!

Nope.. NO chocolate.... I feel like a crack addict.. I can't just have a LITTLE chocolate.. so it's NO MOE FO ME.

The cholesterol thing hit me becasue I've always been so proud of the fact that I have SUPER LOW blood pressure and my blood work always came back good... because the rest of my family are walking heart attacks... artherosclerosis, strokes, heart attacks, pulmonary disease, elephantitis of the heart, you name it they've got it... but they all also smoke like trains and eat all sorts of junk food.

I've usually eaten pretty good food... just too much of it... and I've never smoked... so I thought I would be in the clear.. guess not So now it's me and my BFF Treadmill.... since I don't have any fat friends to work out with... heck I don't have friends period.

Come on, Jules! We're your friends! I have a webcam built in to my computer, but I don't have a treadmill at home so I can't really work out with you like that. I wish I had done as much as you have this summer.

Okay, semi-bad food day. I did fine until afer dinner. We had home-made enchiladas...fine, I only had 2, but then I started craving bread - 2 slices and sandwich roll later the craving is gone but I think I went over my calorie limit. Very little salt, though. Dan had a headache so we didn't go to the gym, but tomorrow's another day. It's so hard to do things outside when it's 100+F everyday.

Oh, well, I just have to take it one day at a time, right?

Aside from my weight, I'm pretty healthy. My cholesterol has never been over 170 and then only once and my blood pressure is always at the lower end of "normal". Until the thyroid cancer, I've never had anything serious, and even that pretty much take care of now.
