I just got a call from Don's son.

He died today in an accident.

He was riding his beloved Busa and something went wrong. Not sure what.

UPDATE FROM CAPTAIN!
Okay folks..... I just got off the phone with Don's wife Sherry. What a trialed time she is having and before I post anything further please say a quiet prayer for the family. Sherry is on the way to the funeral home to make the funeral arrangements, this is going to be a tough time for the beginning of a long hard emotional day for her........

Sherry told me to feel free and post up anything that she told me as she knows there are many people questioning the accident, amazing how she was thinking of us at her darkest hour!

The Accident: Don was on his way home from dinner with his middle son and left the road and hit a ditch, why he left the road is still a mystery and we will probably never know for sure... Sherry said that there wasnt't a lot of damage to the bike and it did not look like another vehicle was involved, there was a little tree debris in the road but she feels that a deer probably ran in front of Don. Apparently there has been a large number in the area he went down in the past few days.... The deputy working the accident stated that speed was not a contributing factor.

The situation: Sherry stated that her neighbor found Don after the accident and he called for help and he called Sherry. Sherry was able to get to the accident scene very quickly and she was able to speak to Don briefly, he was alert and he new the day, where he was and who he was. The medics put him on a backboard and told Sherry to start to the hospital, as they were putting him in the ambulance Sherry stated that she knew something was wrong when they started cutting his gear off. Don past from this earth in the back of the ambulance, they worked to save him during the ride and in the ER, Don was pronounced dead in the ER. The doctors advised Sherry that he had some broken ribs, a broken sternum and a damaged Aeorta.

Sherry stated that the neighbor had found Don's cell phone and she had not picked it up yet. She apologized for not calling anyone (Can you believe again she was thinking of us) and I quickly cleared that up. There is nothing that she needs right now, she advised that she would contact one of us with the funeral information.

I did make her promise to call me if there is any need that arises so for those in the area you might want to PM me your contact info in case I do get the call.....

Sherry stated that two of our members are riding in with her youngest son from Alabama so he doesnt have to ride to his fathers funeral by himself. I could not be any prouder of our members right now.....

I will keep you all informed on what we find out but I don't think there will really be any more information than what we have now.

Near as I know at this time, he was on his way home from an event called "Night Fall". Only miles from home.

A motorist found him after what I know at this time to be a single vehicle accident.

He was responsive at the scene but later died at a local trauma center.

Not Don... wow, I can't believe it. Randy, thanks for posting this up - I know how hard it must be for you and for Dawn. Please pass any information about services so that we can pay our respects.

My heart goes out to Don's family and friends - we have lost a wonderful member, a good friend and a great man... those of us who have met Don are better for having known him;

I hope this is a very sick joke. Don is one of my favorite posters here. He's always given me inspiration seeing him riding his Busa at his age. I want to ride sport bikes until my kids have to force me off of one and into a nursing home.
