Hi,just got an escort 8500,and was considering either a Screamer,or the H.A.R.D. system...hard system seems the way to go,but it has Batteries, and if you want to change helmets, you have to remove & re-install system, screamer seems to be less of a hassle, but is it LOUD ENOUGH to hear
with earplugs at speeds OVER Legal Limit??

dr.nick - Hard System has been around for awhile, ridden with a bunch of riders that swear by them. Only catch is be careful of the batteries (lil watch batteries) as they can go dead and you may not know it.

Also note the Hard system is 5 year old technology (or thereabouts), their direct competitior is the new VizAlert. Sort of the Hard System on steroids. Instead of a single LED, it has ten multi colored ones that will tell you strengh, band, etc. Wireless of course, plus no more on-off switches. It's motion activated. ~$150

Cheetah USA distributor: http://www.cheetahusa.com/ (Cheetah is a Scottish company that makes the Laser Jamers for cars and bikes).

Btw, here's pic of Hard System for those following along at home, or those not familiar

Brother,

Listen, I am sort of a expert of this subject. What you want is to get this http://www.motorola.com/motoinf....tId=177 which is the Motorola S9 headset that is bluetooth (It is a behind the neck headset and works great for helmets). Than get this http://store.kyocera-wireless.com/product_detail.aspx?productID=5065 Bluetooth® Black 3.5mm Audio Adapter. What you do is either get a headjack extension from radioshack and run the cable all the way to your storage department or simply plug the audio adapter into the radar detector. Than you can listen to radar detector from under your helmet wirelessly. It works perfect even under extreme speeds. I can hear it going off easly. It is cheap and inexpensive. Why I suggest to run the cable from the front where you hookup your radar detector is because this way if it rains accidentally it is protected. Now only do I have this setup, I also have Laser Jammer installed on the front of my bike. So when the po po hits me with the laser, the radar detector will go off as well and than I can hear it. Also this setup works great for MP3's ......but it is either MP3's or radar detector....not both....still trying find a bluetooth headset like this one that can listen to "simutaneous" from different devices....than I would be set. Trust me it works great. If you don't get a Laser Jammer like this http://www.overstock.com/Electro....0788103 M25 Laser Jammer....than you aren't safe...the po po will still get you.....

i've always heard the that the jammers kinda sucked and didn't work cause they blocked for a lil but not much? like what does it do when you go at one of the roadside things that radar you and say "this is your speed XXX then show the speedlimit sign on it

Here is free mod for you.

Open that power plug suplied with Esscort and solder longer wires to the place of red LED. Then buy Bright LED for $.50 at radio shack and place it above your instrument cluster pointed directly at your face.

Every time radar goes off you can see that bright light. Works great for me and cost nothing.

Hmmm....have you tried the Motorola S9? I have used it with 3 different helmets and it works. Since it is based off the behind the neck the only part that affects the helmet is the in ear canal connector, but that fits fine for me. In fact, the helmet assists in keeping the connector in the ears. Because I am on a motorcycle, "hearing" the radar/laser is more important to me than seeing. I know another guy that uses the same headset where I live and he uses it strictly for MP3's.

You don't understand do you about laser and radar. They are totally 2 different things. Laser Jammers ONLY work for laser guns. You need a radar detector for the police that are moving, since than they use radar KA, X bands. If a police car is moving they cannot use laser. If they are sitting they are most likely only using laser(Depending on the police in your area, in OHIO LASER is king for police not moving and just sitting). So if I was going through a 25 MPH zone and a device was hitting my bike, they aren't using LASER they are using RADAR. My radar detector would go off and I would know it was RADAR. I hope that my information is useful. As for they laser jammer not working well....they work great depending on the unit you have and how you set it up correctly. I have had the columbus police hit me with laser for over 45 secounds when I was speeding and than I slowed down and went by them and they looking at their laser gun, wondering what was wrong with it.

Mvalone,Shoei 11 is a tight fit,S9 headset might not fit,what 3 helmets that you used,worked??....who/where sells the Motorola S9

I just hooked up the 8500 myself and i added the hard wire with the mute button to the setup. i mounted the mute button with the flashing led on the lip of the windscreen at its highest point. this works great because at moderate speeds, you can hear the radar go off and at high speed i am tucked and the led is right in my face. I am really liking this setup.

the volume on this thing is loud. My wife says she can hear it when she is on her bike behind me. The location of the mute button is also a plus for this reason.

In my area radars hit you from behind (that doesnt sound good, but u know what i mean!). Any recommendation what equipment i need to be covered from front and behind?

Helmets that I have used with this headset: Bell, Vega, Zox. As for where to purchase: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2726782    looks like a good deal to me.
Mvalone,Shoei 11 has a rear neck roll inside helmet,and like I said,its
snug and quiet,I'm not familiar with the fit of the Bell, zox, and vega, but
I'll check out RS,and bring my helmet.THX
