Chain fail

I was putting on my new tsubaki chain and ended up breaking my motion pro kit anvil and rivet pin, it doesn't look like I even got a good rivet into the pin at all, am I missing something or is the kit crap?

Show us a pic and we can tell you if you did it correctly. The indentation on the pin is pretty small.

the motion pro is real close to the HP chain breaker/riveter i just bought...you only use the pins to push out the rivet pins...not to mushroom the rivet heads...to do that use the ball bearing to do it...

Ill have to get pics tomorrow being that its 3 am here, but the kit I have has 3 different pins for taking the the link apart and a riveter pin, I do not have a ball bearing one, but the pins on the master link look like solid metal, no holes or anything to flare, I don't have any clips for the master link so I assumed that they had to be flare, but solid pins come on!!

Maybe you got a snap together master link? I am not experienced in breaking a chain, but I know there are two kinds of master links you can get.
