Good learner bike?

Since I am getting a busa again, one of my friends decided he wants to learn to ride and roll with me. I think this is a good deal for him just wanted to run it by you guys too. It is owned/riden by a 56 year old professor (doctor) and she is the only owner. She agreed to let me come and take it for a ride for him.

1995 ZX6E
24K miles
Yoshimura exhaust
Corbin custom seat (+ stock seat if wanted)
New brakes and sprockets
Good rubber
Tank bag and saddle bags that match the bike
1 owner – me!
$2K firm – it’s worth about $2400 – clean bike, garage kept

Watch the "good" rubber. If it is more than 2 years old, it will be hard and have bad traction. Probably your friend won't be cornering real but never know when he might be caught in rain. Also, the tread on his first set of tires may last quite a while and he may be reluctant to change them.

My usual response to this question is a mid size old cruizer, they can be had pretty cheap and your not going to care about tipping it over. Then my #1 recommendation for someone is a Suzuki SV650 great learner bike and still fairly sporty/peppy.

Examples with a quick search on craigs:

a 94 zx6 was my first bike. Sold it last year with 8k miles for 2k. Couldve gotten 2200 out of it if i wanted to...

Sounds like it has been babied its entire life, time to blow out the carbon.

I tend to aggree, nothing beats a nice old cruiser for learning on...

The SV650's are good bikes for learning on but a 6 would be pretty good too. As long as your gentle on the controls at first and respect what it can do he'll more then likely really love it. :beerchug:

I had that exact bike. although it doesn't have Busa power, it still can get a newb in trouble. Like said before, check the age of the tires. I wouldn't be supprized if they are the originals. They came with dual compounds from the factory. When I sold my bike I had over 30k on the tires and they still looked good.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. I figured it was a go but I trust the jugement of the org more than anything on bikes. He has ridden dirt bikes when he was younger, and does nto like cruisers. He is a solid 230 so a 250 is out of the question, I think this bike is going to be spot on! I will definitely inquire about the tires tho thanks for that info. I am going to go ride it on Sat. I have never heard of bike tires lasting for 20 or 30 K that is crazy, I wish they made a tire like that for our bikes.
