Two diff subjects - Suzuki prices for gaskets, and the quality of Fieldsheer

I guess I am just too lazy to make two posts.

I recently ordered a bunch of gaskets/seals from ronayers.com to rebuild calipers, also the valve cover gasket, spark plug gaskets, valve cover bolt washers, a couple of tank rubber bushing etc. I knew they were expensive. But, man when I opened this small box and looked at what I got for around $150 - this just makes no sense to me. How can a company charge so much for a few custom stamped pieces of rubber/plastic? Let's see if I can paste my order here...

On a completely different subject, I am struggling with my 8-year old Fieldsheer leather pants, and even though the pants are holding OK, it's the small items in craftsmanship which failed me. So, I sent an email to Fieldsheer and included the following link with pictures. Let's see what they say, if anything.

My I ask what you expect Fieldsheer to do about your 8-year old pants? Or you just wanted to give them feedback? Best of luck.

Really? 8 years, 40,000 miles, 30 track days and you have been down in them a few times...

I think you got your money's worth out of them. Quality improvements have been made in the last eight years. Buy a new pair and move on.

i think they held up surprisingly well for 30 track days eight years and 40000 miles. i hope this post is a jest? hell i dont have any jeans that old that lasted that well and they didnt suffer half the abuse those leathers did.:poke:

I change my helmet every 5 yrs or when it gets dropped. 8 years you should be praising them on there performance and looking for another from the same company

Goodluck :beerchug:

Man I bet those pants feel good all broken in.

I'd say they did their job and more! Take them to a leather shop or Harley dealer that can direct you to a seamstress. Have the minor stuff fixed as the problems are wear items. You should have sent a kudos to Fieldsheer instead of telling them what went wrong.

Next time you decide to get all crazy and want to order stuff from ronayers, check with me on OEM stuff first haha

Agree with all the above! Looks like those leathers held up great!

FWIW, Fieldsheer may not be top of the line, but they offer very good value. I have LOTS of their gear.

You guys are missing the point. I encountered those issues after a few years of owning the pants, but kept fixing them so I could still use the pants. Nothing happened to the leather - well, because it's leather.

What you guys are telling me that after 2-3 years it's OK for the famous YKK zipper to break, the velcro strap to go bad, for the pockets to develop holes, and for the tread which holds the buttons to break.

I don't remember a zipper failing on any of my jeans even though I use them more often than my riding pants. I am a big fan of velcro and use it in many places and never had one to go bad as in this case - loops simply disappear - well I get mine in Home Depot in a roll, and it never failed me. I don't remember ever getting holes in my jean pockets, and certainly buttons on any of my jeans never got lose or separated.

So, what I am saying that aside from leather, they used crappy stuff, and did a crappy job.

And the reason I wrote to them is because it is always a good idea to communicate with a company - most of the time they want to know your feedback - but not a one phraser, but a solid feedback. A few years back I actually spoke with what turned out one of Fieldsheer owners or a member of the management team, but on a different subject, so I know they are listening.

I don't expect anything like a free pair of pants, although you never know. But I was in a mood to do this, and I spent 30 min taking pictures, posting and writing to them.

I did buy a Fieldsheer perforated leather suite a couple of years ago, and leave the old one for cold weather riding.

In retrospect, a similar interaction with EBC not only gave me an isight on how to deal with glazed brake pads, but I received two sets of free EBC HH pads, and two sets of EBC HH PRO pads - well, they were supposed to send only one set, but I ended up talking with a couple of different people and I guess they didn't check with each other.
