Default venison by busa

I hit a deer on Ma. highway rt95 on sat morning (10/31/09) early while on my way to work. I had the whole 4 lanes to myself without a single car in sight. The speed limit is 65mph but drops down to 55mph about where it happened. I wasn't going that slow! I know, 20/20 hindsight and all that but I had the whole highway to myself and no other traffic what could happen? I was knocked off the back of the busa with a hit to the chest from the head of the deer that seemed to be tracking me and waiting to leap. I know it seems unreal but that is how I feel about it. I slid for quite a while before I impacted something (hard) and then slid some more and eventually came to a stop in complete darkness. Many things run though your mind as you lay in silence looking up at the stars and think I have to move before I get hit by a car driven by someone that is half asleep or worse. I can't see the bike at all because it had stayed up on it's wheels and kept going. I didn't know what lane I was lying in. A fellow biker was first on scene and remained calm, called an ambulance and I got a ride. I have no broken bones or serious roadrash to speak of just some real BIG colorful bruises. I was wearing my shoei helmet/ vanson jacket-gloves /draggin jeans / and boots. I thought I'd share some pics of the shoei just to make a point. Helmets are good. I put a few pics of the bike, it went down pretty easy on it's righthand side and slid a little but I've yet to take anything off and really look at it. The last pic is of my two kids (Mia 3yrs old and Gus 15 months old) dressed for halloween on sat night and I was there to enjoy it with them. My sons costume is a poke at me from my wife. I'm a very lucky man and I know it.

OMG! I am glad you are OK, the bike is very fixable and you need to keep that helmet right there!

I swear those little bastages wait in the dark for us and then SPROING! I hit one the beginning of Oct...only caught the pipe but they are sneaky.

Yosh is really good about shipping pipes quickly!

WOW!!! Glad to hear your ok bro. I myself am living testament as to the reasons TO wear a helmet. I went down doing only 30 mph. I rolled 4 times for about 100',but my head impacted the pavement 4 times. If I wasnt wearing a helmet I would not be here.
I drive an 18 wheeler in Ma. and CT. every night and have had many close calls with the deer.

i assume your alright and that's the good news but sorry for the bike. this time of year can be tough because of hunting season. where on 95 did you get hit? i used to hate riding my bike on 128 which to me was practically suicide. cool shot of the kids.

I live in the central part of MS and this time of year they are terrible...Man I tell you EVERYDAY it's nothing to see 8,10, or more right on the dang side of the road...The DOT plants rye grass on the sides of the roads and in the medians because it holds the soil well and all....but it is one of the deers "favorite" foods...so, of course they are out there tearing it up all the time!!!! But man it is a death trap for us...I am still riding too (on mine today too) but it really takes the fun of riding away a lot when you have to be almost "paranoid" about watching for the deer... my work schedule and length of time I have to commute to and from work puts me on the road right at daylight in the AM and riding till after dark in the PM.... I just pray and ask GOD to please take care of me

Glad you are ok though Bro!! Please be careful out there : deer
