Default what plastic is clear and safe with oil?

Ok I screwed up my clutch cover (clear window)...

I have no idea what type of plastic it was.. I was reassembling the cover and hosed it down with brake cleaner on the inside and it friggen melted the finish on the clear window... bummer..

Is Lexan ok? another type of acrylic? I gotta go pick up new piece today and do not trust the guys there to steer me right..

Lexan will work just fine. The clear clutch covers that are out there utilize lexan with no problems. Acetone/alcohol clean the daylights out of that unit and if you are seating it with an adhesive, you a top grade marine silicon.

Good luck...take some pics...I love seeing unique repairs we don't see that often!

Lexan is good stuff, takes heat and oil well...also molds well with heat for custom projects.

I second the Lexan.
It will work fine.
A good plastic shop should have some ends in their scrap bin that would work too.

I could be wrong, but I would thing you could buff it clear again. I'm thinking that's what folks do when they buy the kits to fix headlights that get the yellowish milky look to them.
